Hola;
The 209 I bough came with a nice Garmin 178c Multipurpose GPS, Sounder, fish thingy (lots of big green fish underneath that won't bite ANYTHING!). My question is this;

Can I upgrade my 178c without having to replace all of the connections and the sonar-gps units?
thanks
AE

It depends on the new unit (must be Garmin) and the # pin connection in the back. Garmin used to have a system that units that ended in "2" were the GPS and the units that ended in "8" were the GPS w/ sonar. A 198 is a 192 w/ sonar. If you find a later "8" unit (198, 298, 498) you may be able to just switch head units w/o changing harnesses. Call Garmin Intl. and they will be able to walk you through it. (Garmin.com)

Garmin uses the same transducer and remote GPS module connector on all their units. The odds are you could reuse your existing transducer and remote GPS module if you have one.

Now the power cable / interface is a different story.
