Ok fellas I need help again!

The "clamshell" on my vacuflush quit turning when the foot pedal is depressed. I have it all torn apart and I think there was a bit of wear on the plastic latch that holds the spring and center pin that rotates the shell, and the spring has unwound. It looks like I'm able to re-engage the spring without ordering a new plastic part, however I can't seem to put the cap and pedal back together with the spring engaged. I need 4 hands.

Anyone have any tips? The only way I see this working is unbolt the entire base and ask a really really really good friend to assist, or possibly I'm trying to fix a part that is only pre-assembled at the factory....

Reminder I have three girls and no toilet=no boating for Daddy....

For completeness, here's a picture of the spring unit. The red pencil points to the lever that rotates one way to activate the water to fill the bowl, and doesn't rotate the other way... forcing the shaft to open the bowl.

You can imagine me spending two(2) one half hour(0.5hr) chunks of my life trying to get the spring around the shaft with tension on the lever, all while fitting the cover over the foot pedal and screwing it together.... :bang :-| :bang

Don't be me. Order the part. If you don't hear from me again, assume it screwed in easy....
