Hello all,
The glass separates from the alum frame when I open the hatch. I noticed the riser arm pushes up by the glass, not by the frame, and I guess over time this happens. Obviously, when it rains I get a couple of drops in the cabin.

What adhesive / sealant / glue should I use to glue the plexiglass to the alum frame? From what I read 3M 4200 may be the one but I'm not sure if there's a better option.

Also, does anyone know the Grady / Bomar part# for this hatch?

Thanks, Alex

100 percent clear silicone works great, everything needs to be clean and dry till it cures.

I plan to call Grady to get the manufacturer / part number of this hatch, then call them directly.

Do you think that 100% silicone has the strength to hold the weight of the hatch frame?

The old adhesive / sealant is dark in color, not sure what that means, if anything.

Is this a tricky repair to get right DIY? I'd hate to waste time and effort and not end up fixing the problem.

Thanks, Alex

I agree with duconce.
Silicone is an adhesive. Should hold the glass in frame just fine. I have used it to hold metal frame replacement windows in rental property with no issues and great seals.

After looking at it closely, I now believe the hatch on my boat is not the original one. The plexiglass seems very flimsy, the screws from the inside don't look right, and the carpet on the ceiling inside has markings of a slightly different frame. Not good at all. Want to fix correctly and permanently. Looking at calling Grady for help, getting a part number, or even better, the hatch manufacturer to see if they can help.

Thanks Alex

Quick FYI, per Grady, original hatch was made by bomar, and is part# n1318-10a.

Ordered today, should be in within a week.

So, finally got the new hatch in from Bomar, and .... it doesn't fit. Long story short, the part number is right, Bomar apparently changed the hatch dimensions over the years, but kept the part number the same. The reason I know the PN is right is because I pulled the old hatch, Bomar looked up the SN, and gave me the exact same part number I had ordered, yet the new hatch lid is ~1/2" larger than the old, and the hinge is now on the inside (used to be on the outside). No other hatch has the dimensions I need.

So, I returned the new hatch, and I'm now looking for someone that can fix the hatch. Per Bomar, they no longer repair hatches in-house, and gave me the name of a 3rd party that may be able to help me. Select Plastics (selectplastics.com) sounds good, but they're in CT, plus have a 5 week turnaround for repairs.

If you can recommend anyone that specializes in full repairs / rebuild of hatches, hopefully in FL, please let me know.

Regards, Alex
