Currently have a 2000 209 Escape with the GPS, Fish Finder, and VHF inside of the console. Are currently installing a T-Top and are adding a CD Player & AM/FM unit with speakers. Since the storage box is full I need another option to mount all my electronics. I haven't been a fan of mounting my electronics on the top of the console. Saw this picture/idea online. See attached picture. What's the positive/negative to flush mounting electronics and fabricating something custom to enclose this box?

Also why type of material is best to use to mount the electronics into?

We recently purchased a 2002 209 and also plan on modifying our electronics layout. The boat came with stereo unit and VHF mounted in the T-top overhead electronics box. There was a small fish-finder in the console electronics box.

We purchased two units, a dedicated fish finder and a gps/radar unit. These two units are temporarily mounted inside the console electronics box, we plan on flush mounting the units in the near future. I have not confirmed thickness (1/4" or 3/8", but I will probably use cream colored starboard custom cut to fit where the tinted Lexan 'glovebox' sits now. I much prefer the look of flush mounted electronics, I also find it easier to operate the units and view the screens.

We similarly mounted a Garmin 4208 using Starboard. I think it makes it easier to push buttons in a bouncy sea since I have an area to place the heel of my hand, that can support some weight, leaving my fingers free to press the right buttons. Also seems to reduce vibration on the Garmin. lastly, makes it harder for someone to walk off with.

Fl marine plastics did my panel. Awesome work. I even had him do two panels, one blank in case I ever upgrade electronics. I used black king starboard. Kept the hinges, but if I redid it, I would not and go for bigger screen.
