what h.p.2 repower seafarer outboard on bracket

looking to repower 91 22 ft seafarer with outboard on a grady drive bracket.hull came with 225 evenrude with crew of 4,cooler of ice,30 gallon bunker tank boat struggles 2 get on plane.granted motor is original to boat 1991,with 15 x 17 prop.should i only consider 250 h.p.?

My Yamaha F250TXR does an excellent job all the way around but wouldn't want to go with less. The new ones are rated 300hp which, IMHO, would be as near perfect as could be. But mine is only rated for 250 hp so that's the limit.

I found a used 250HP E-Tec when my old '94 Johnson blew up. No regrets at all.

Weight is going to be an issue if you go F250...I'd look at an E-TEC, as well.

Have a 91 grady 228g also, just finished repower with F250. Found good used one for good price and could not be happier. It jumps out of the hole now. I am not sure what everyone means by being butt heavy with the four stroke, I could tell no difference. I always kept my kicker moter on back and extra oil when I had the Evinrude 200 on her. Take that kicker off add the four stroke, not much difference. I kick myself for not repowering sooner.

Sounds to me like your motor was just tired. A healthy 225 should be plenty for that hull/load. With a v6 Merc my old 204 would jump out of the hole with a full load of fuel, 3 adults and gear for an offshore trip.

I would look at the weight difference between the F300 and F250 and then decide on wjich motor to go with. Part of the HP rating for the boat is based on weight of the motor itself. Also having repropped recently going from a3 blade to a 4 blade I would highly suggest doing the same. The boat handles so much better with a 4 blade prop in following seas, turns and the hole shot. The stern lift from the 4 blade prop helps the with this boat in my opinion. Good luck with your deocision.

MY F250XCA (4.2 liter) and the F300XCA both weigh in at 560 lbs, about 47 lbs lighter than the prior generation 3.3 liter F200 - F250s.
