The infamous answer of yes but can you stop it.......so with that being said, yeah probably but Im telling you your truck will hate you in a few trips after doing it.
I just (this weekend 4th of July) towed my new to me 2001 265Express 550miles from VA to GA down I-85, avg 7.0mpg, spent ALOT of time in 3rd gear on pretty much all the hills, maybe a handful of 2nd gear changes, but I worked hard to avoid that.
My truck is a 2004 2500HD, 6.0 Gas, as far as suspension, handles it fine, the trailer is a brand new 2011 Venture triaxle, brakes on all axles, 700#s of tongue weight, weighed the whole package when I first got it, (1/2 fuel, no water, no gear) and it came in at 10,200#'s total trailer weight, that puts me about 400#s shy of my max.......pretty darn close.
My avg tow is less than 1/4mile, from storage lot to marina ramp on the Navy base, no public roads, VERY gradual ramp, just overall ease of use as far as moving that big of a boat. I made this trip down to GA to try out how she tows and was pleased that I "can" do it, but know I would NOT "want" to do it with anything less, or on a regular basis.
Not sure what a 28 Marlin weighs, I remember the 282 and 265 were within 500#s of Yamaha test weights, so I limited my choices between those two for trailerability, I would think twice about towing a boat this size with a half ton.....In the past few years my father has been through 2 trannys on a 2000+ model Suburbans and Ive had 1 tranny and 1 rear-end on my previous Z71, and both did a lot of local and long distance towing (avg 4-5000#s) with those trucks.
