windshield query for a 209, but more general

I've a 209 Escape, new to me.
Sweet boat.
Wondering what is might be like, without the plastic windshield - which seems to spoil view.
Any experience in removing it?
Down side?
Inelegant appearance thereafter?
Difficult to do?

What am I missing here?

If you go out when it's cold or ever get caught in a blow, you'll be glad it's there. Plus it gives someplace to duck down behind so you don't lose your hat.
