I have a 2000 Grady White Marlin that sprung a leak from the starboard windshield wiper nozzle. Once I began to investigate and discovered the source of the problem, I realized this may have been going on for sometime as the windshield wiper motor was completely corroded, and the wire connections seemed to disintegrate upon removal to reconnect the hose.

I acquired a new 12 volt wwiper motor, and began the installation, but cannot figure out how to connect the existing wires to get it to work properly. If fact, my trial and error apparently have killed the power flow to the motor altogether. The breaker on the main DC board still functions properly, but something is no longer sending power to the motor.

Two Questions:

1. is there a fuse that I need to now replace located between the cockpit wiper switch and the motor?
2. once I regain power, what is the proper way to hook up the electrical for the motor? It has 4 wires total connected to the motor...3 near the middle (which I assume is for slow, fast, and park), and one at the end (which I do not know what it is for). The existing wires are orange, black, and orange with black stripe.

Any guidance the forum can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Hi - did you download the manual from Grady White site? It has the electrical schematics that show which colors connect to which. If the schematics for your year a not legible, try a nearby year as the reproduction quality is very poor on many of those manuals. The picture below is from one of the 1994 manuals and captures the color mapping from the boat wiring colors to the wiper motor colors. For mine, there are no additional fuses beyond the breaker dedicated for the wipers on the switch panel.

Good luck,
-Scott

Thanks Scott. This is helpful. One more question for you, (and please pardon my ignorance regarding anything electrical), when you reference, "there are no additional fuses beyond the breaker dedicated for the wipers on the switch panel"...are you referring to the main DC Switch panel located in the cabin...or the actual wiper switch on the cockpit dash? If the latter, I am wondering if there is a fuse connected to the switch I need to change?

Or, if I just properly connect the wiring as diagrammed in your response, should I be ok?

Thanks again for any guidance you can provide.

The way my 1994 is set up is that each switch on the panel has a resetable circuit breaker. You can see them in the photo below above each switch. When one trips, I press the little rubber booty to reset it. I suspect somewhere you have a resetable breaker dedicated for your wiper.Someone with a similar boat maybe able to tell you where it is. On my boat, there is a plywood panel inside the bathroom that covers the back of the switch panel wiring. I can remove that panel and see all the wiring. I had a faulty breaker which I was able to troubleshoot from behind with a voltmeter.

Scott - I was able to get everything working properly. Thanks for the guidance.
