I discussed the issue behind the recall of the F-350 with the service manager of my dealer yesterday and was told the following.

The flywheel on the F-350 is running hot, once hot it is vibrating at a frequency that is setting up a harmonic with the crank shaft that can result in the failure of the crank shaft. This is a freak one in 10000000000000 possibility but somehow it happened.

My engine is scheduled to have the flywheel replaced next month; I will post again when I know more details.
PS this is not even on Yamaha’s web site (at least the public portion) as a service bulletin.

I also talked with Yamaha and my dealer and both said that just the gasket has to be replaced, not the whole flywheel. Am'i missing something here or did i get this wrong? I'm scheduled for the repair/replace in two weeks.
