Saw a post about " what is my boat worth". Got me thinking. I love this boat and it is NOT for sale. 1976 GW 173 Sprint with 1976 Johnson 70 hp motor. Just wondering what I really have. It has Magellan GPS plotter and ship to shore radio, all period correct and functional. All coast guard necessaries and owners manuals for electrics, boat, and outboard. It is a "turn key" set up. Pic for condition. Just what have I got? TIA. Tom

This sounds strange, but there really is no value to that rig. I don't mean that in a bad way, just that there really is no way to put a price on it - if you look up NADA values, it's probably somewhere under $1,000. Think about it this way - say you think it's worth $5K. Well, there are much newer boats with newer motors and trailers, with newer technology that perform better that can be had for $5K. The real value is to someone who has an emotional tie or sentiment to it. In the end - it's worth what someone will pay.

I thought GPS didn't become available for civilian use till sometime in the '80's?

Not strange at all. My brother is a used car dealer and I managed the car lot for years, I understand that. Was just wondering if there is a following for correct vintage boats like there is for cars. The hull is rated for 130hp. I didnt want to repower if it took away from the "originality" factor. 1976 or 2006, this is the boat I wanted, just can't afford the 2006. I am about to retire and this boat will outlast me. Thanks for the info. Don't know about the gps thing.
 
If I had that boat and wanted to spiff it up with new, but correct colors, I'd be reaching out to Grady-White customer service and pick their brain. Even though you can possibly pull archived pics up from the website, I'd still be wanting to touch base with them about it and get some input from them.
 
Gonna say a couple of grand max. It is prob worth a lot more to you than what you could get for it.

If it was a wooden boat, that changes things. But as far as I know, there's no real "vintage" Grady following. In my opinion, I'd go ahead and change it up to suit your needs as you see fit. If it's been a while, obviously check out the transom and stringer condition before re-powering - but other than that, have fun with it!

Aye YiYi; Same concept. If we had only stuffed them in the corner of a barn somewhere and brought them back out today. You could've gotten 70-80K for that SS.

Who would've ever thought?
 
Also have a 1966 Johnson 9.5 on my river boat. 1979 Harley, and 1983 Cherokee.But graduated in 1974.
Congrats Captain; You've got a neat stable of memories there; I'll wager that 9.9 starts on the first or second pull..

1974 huh? '72 here. I'd love to fill our Marlin up with '74 gas prices right before the Arab Oil Embargo when Nixon was in office.

I'll jump off the Nostalgia Bandwagon here; I could go on forever talking about the "good ol' days." I swear there was an innocence and a lighthearted spirit that permeated those times that are not present today.
