1997 Gulstream w/2 150 hp 2 stroke Yamaha Saltwater Series. Always flushed with hose (disconnect from under cowling) for 2-4 minutes after use, as confirmed by dealership (runs water in reverse). Overheating issue cropped up. Removed heads and amaized at the amount of salt deposits (have pics if anyone wants to see them). Question is...Is it better to use this flush method OR should I use muff over intake at bottom of engine while running?

Engine manufacturers recommend static flush. I would say flushing for at least 8 mins each engine. 2-4 minutes is not enough time to break down the deposits in my opinion.

The other important thing is that they are still warm when you do it.

Here is a good thread to read about deposit build up and removal.

I usually flush my motor using the hose under the cowling right away when I load up at the boat ramp using my fresh water wash down. It is best to flush the salt water out before it has a chance to start drying up and leave salt deposits. If I have to run the motor for any length of time on the hose, I hook up 1 hose to the ear muffs and another separate hose to the flush hose. This gives it plenty of water to cool and allows the thermostat to open for complete flushing.

Does that work. I Thought the hose to the hose on motor runs the impeller in reverse.

It works great. The little hose sends water to the power head and trickles down a little to rinse the impeller.
