2006 F250 issue. Update

On rare occasions, cleaning the vst filter did not work. I’ve had to replace the filter to get it to pass sufficient fuel through. I usually put new ones in the first round so I know it is going to be ok.
I have seen this also and in those cases although the screen doesn't look that bad, you can't clearly see your fingers when you look through the hole. If clogged the image is just a blur. I am not sure what fuel condition or contaminants causes that but I feel that if you don't know if and when the filter was ever replaced, buy a new one and why you are at it, but a new ridiculously over priced o-ring for the cover. Reusing an old one can be very frustrating since the gasket always seems to be too big to fit in the groove ( ok, you can try the freezer trick:)

With all the time and trouble it takes to get to the filter, (at least for my four strokes) unless you enjoy doing it again, I can see no logic in cleaning versus replacing the filter. On my first one I reused the tank o-ring and it didn't seem difficult using silicone grease to hold it in place. Tank is not pressurized so leakage is less likely. When I did my other engine as a precaution I sprang for a new o-ring. Fun stuff!

A light coat of 847 in the groove first will save almost any vst gasket unless it is really bad. I’ve sealed up a few hundred vst tanks without an issue.

What is 847? Carbon conductive assembly paste? I use thick silicon grease as it is harmless to rubbers and plastics over the long term. Not familiar with 847.

847 works amazing for water pump housing o rings. Makes the impeller install easier so you don’t crush any o rings. Just don’t block the air prime passage between the top of the cup and the housing when sealing the small o ring.

Thanks! I'll try it.

I bet it did, I had Full Keel Marine in Wakefiled, RI do it. I will ask the tech next time I see him.
For a while there were lots of posts about the white 'powder' in the VST tank. Supposedly it was a defect in the actual tank material but now that I think of it, I haven't heard of those issues in a long time.

I usually found the white powder in the fuel systems that contained ethanol. A moisture problem that ethanol helped to cultivate. More people are social distancing from ethanol and the white powder Cases are going down. Lol.

In NYC, all you can get is E10 but I haven't heard about lot of white powder VST issues lately. It may be that I am not as nosy as I used to be!

All filters were unclogged but replaced. All injectors passed. So the problem seems to be, that when at some time the 2006 fuel/water filter assembly under the cowling was replaced with a 2007+ assembly, the Inlet fuel hose wasn’t changed. The 2006 assembly hose connectors point down. The 2007 assembly has horizontal connectors. The existing pipe is not quite long enough and crimped as it aged. So should be good to go. Was thinking I might have to dispose of about 90 gallons of fuel.
