I have a 1998 Grady White 208 that’s new to me (and I’m new to boating) There is a hose under the helm that is draining water into my feet. (See pics) It is more pronounced once I get move 20-30 mph. Can anyone tell me what this hose is? Where does it connect from, and what can I do to stop the water?

This hose?? Think all that is, is the drain for the electronics box at the helm. Make sure you don't have any water sloshing around in there.

First thing that came to mind was a pitot tube. Had one come off the back of a speedo on an old seacraft. Just thinking out loud

Is the speedometer in the cubby that the hose drains? If so, the pitot tube is either disconnected from the speedo, or has broken/cracked. That would be my first thought - check into that.

That would make that hose have water in it if pitot tube is off/cracked behind speedo.

I agree with Ky Grady. You must be getting water in your electronics box. I used this hose to run wires into my electronics box.

Thanks - yes it appears to be the speedometer hose. There actually appears to be 2 hoses not sure why - should there be some sort of connection between them? I crimped them both off of now and no leakage. I recently replaced the gauge but made sure I re-attached the same hose as before. Thanks again for the help!

Leave your panel off and go take a run. Un-crimp them and see which one is flowing water. Your speedo works off water pressure from the pitot opening on leading edge of your lower unit. You can get a splice and put in if your hose is split and reconnect to the back of the speedo.

I am not sure what the second hose is. I also see a third hose connected to the other gauge. In any case, you need to check the tubes; If a tube is water pressure it will leak water whenever the motor is running. If one of the tubes is the speedo feed (pitot tube), it way leak water when the boat is moving. The faster the boat is moving, the faster the water will shoot out.

The rust stain on the mounting flange of the helm housing may be an indication of where the leak is near to.

You could also have a water pressure hose from the engine.

I thought of that but without specific info on the original engine and gauge set, you can't say one way or the other.

If you boat in salt water, both of those gauge hoses will be salt water, and if they leak, it will be all over your wiring and connections under there. I would extend, or replace, the drain line in your original post, so that it drains close to the deck.

That worked like a champ! Hooked the flowing one up and got my speedo back. Not sure what the other one is so I capped it. Thanks!
