Transducer for Grady White Marlin

Just purchased a new Furuno TZT3 dual 12 inch system. It was recommended to get the B275HLW transducer. I'm getting conflicting information from electronic installers. Has anyone used this transducer on a 30ft grady white Marlin? If so, where did you mount it? How did you mount it? What kind of performance do you get from the transducer at speed? Have not used it, but there are two flats on the hull for this purpose. I have mine on the starboard flat and it works excellent.

Thanks for the reply. The flats are 4x16...however this model transducer is 4.5 x 7.5...so I am concerned about the transducer (without fairing block) hanging over the flat section....not sure if it matters or not.

It is VERY big.... 22.5" long 5.25" wide ...Thats a lot hanging down on a 30 ft hull


You have two units. You could get a B175L and a B175HW... thats two big holes but it'll be flush...

Any of the Airmar dual channel bronze/stainless through hull series transducers will use the massive fairing block Skunk mentioned so the install would be custom but would likely provide good results.

First would be to focus on/pick the transducer frequencies and cone width based on the type of use/fishing you’ll be doing. Airmar makes multiple transducer models with the same elements but different mounting options. What Skunk suggested are the same elements as the transducer that was recommended but with a slightly wider cone angle for the Low frequency elements.

Another consideration is whether you can use a flush mount through hull on your boat as I’ve heard that larger boats near 30 feet (more a function of displacement) have issues with boundary layer flow interfering with flush mount transducer installations; hence the recommendation for a fairing block or pocket mount.

Best bet would be to talk to the installers and go with one who will stand by their installation/make it right and guarantee it in writing.
