330 with Verado 300/v8 question.

I'm still playing with engine height but I'm WOT 42.5mph, fast cruise 4900 @35mph at 1mpg, slow cruise (slow for me) 4500 @31mph, 1.2/1.3mpg. I have verados with 1.85 lower units. I'm running 17p enertia ecos, engines mounted at the very highest position.
oceandansar gets better numbers with his CMS v8 4 strokes with same props and 1.75 lower units. He's mounted low.... maybe lowest position? Hopefully he sees this and responds. I think he tops out at 45mph and can cruise 30mph at like 4000 rpm.
Before I launch in spring, I'm going to lower it 2 holes and see how I do. It's contrary to everything I've ever been told about engine height but Other 300 powered boats are getting better numbers. Also, there's someone else on here with 300 suzukis who's also getting better numbers.

My old Yamaha 250's are close to what you are reporting above. Are you confident the 17 pitch prop is best for that engine and gear ratio? I think it might be too little prop and you might be hitting the rev limiter. Have you run it with the computer and tested other props?
