Yes, winterizing is good to go and it’s wrapped up and stored for the winter.

I’d heard good things about Deka as well. It took me a while to shift to ever start and at this point I’m not sure I’ll change. It’s just too easy to swap them out at any Walmart location if there’s ever an issue. Their return policy and such is simple and easy as well. Should I ever need to. I appreciate the input on it. I figured it would be fine but didn’t hurt to ask. Also gave me a chance to hop back on here as well. Thank you again
 
Why a overkill?

Beside considerable lower self discharge and complettly maintenance free, AGM's don't produce hydrogen.
At least in Europe AGM's are not that much more expensive than wet-cell's.

Generally, on engines like what he has, wet cells will last 5 or 6 years with normal maintenance. AGM's might (probably will) last a bit longer, but it just comes down to cost vs lifespan vs the advantages (which you stated) and whether those advantages benefit the user.

I'm certainly not saying DON'T use AGM - just that for normal use, they aren't "necessarily" needed.

In some cases, like newer, digitally controlled engines that are very voltage sensitive, AGM's are pretty much required. But an '88 carb'd V6 doesn't really fall into that category :)
 
To better explain where I was coming from... just explaining that he has options and although AGM's are becoming more commonly used nowadays, he doesn't "need" them and has options. Once he has good, valid info - he can make a decision as to what's best for him.

Wanted to follow up on this as I was able to take it out from being stored and get to work on it.

First things first the trailer wasn’t braking under the surge brakes so I cut out all of the old brake lines, re-made them at Napa and reinstalled them. Have trailer brakes now which is great.

Then worked on the boat. Replaced all of the impeller components that I had bought as recommended and finally replaced the oil pressure sensor since the boat would not run for more than 10 seconds.

Impeller went over all well. Super trashy inside and was really glad I bought the full kit. Replaced everything.

Sensor wise I noticed it was wired up really odd. Probably by passed. The purple wire was leading to a red wire and the purple with stripe was leading to a black. Replaced it as it was and it still started and just died per usual. Said F it and wired it directly to the original purple wire and purple stripe wire and it stayed running exactly as it should. Plus pumped out water from the engine like it was supposed to. So huge win on both parts.

Hoping to get it out in the water finally next weekend.

The “transmission” did clunk a bit going from drive to reverse and vice versa. I’m hoping that’s normal. Overall though beyond happy to have a running boat.

Fuel gauge and trim gauge don’t work though so going to see if I can find the fuse box next and go from there.

A firm "clunk" in the lower unit gears going into gear is normal... and GOOD. Firm, quick engagement is much better than grinding the gears!

The sound will be less noticeable in the water.

Trim sensor is on the engine - can diagnose there.

Fuel gauge... check at the sender. Short sender wire to ground. Lot's and lot's of info about this all over the net - super simple/easy system.

Be sure everything is hooked up on the backside of the gauge.

Thank you for saying that part about firm quick engagement vs grinding the gears. I was shifting extremely slowly and was absolutely hearing a grinding like sound going from forward to reverse and vice versa. That explains that much better. I won’t shift slowly anymore like that
