Looking for some advice on lift

I have a 2000 Gulfstream 232 with twin 150’s for fishing on Lake Champlain. Purchased a 10,000# RGC electric lift and wanting to put in the dock and lift in the water within the next two weeks. The current bunks (4) should be replaced or at least reconfigured per the GW specs. Curious on people’s thoughts on best solution.

My trailer uses two 4x6 bunks on the dead rise angle. Nothing else and have had no issues. Questioning the true need for four 1x5 flat bunks versus two heavy duty bunks matching the trailer. I have no tide considerations and the local people with zero GW experience are saying stay with the specs.

1 by 5 doesn't sound right to me. The 4 x 6 is probably better assuming the 4 inch edge is what the hull rests on. Depending on how the bunks are attached to the lift, doubled up 2 x 6 would probably ne OK ( actual size, 3 x 5 1/2 approx.) The bunks on a trailer take a harder beating due to road bums and the like whereas the bunks on a lift don't have that load.


The spacing for the hull stringers is either 35 inches or 61 inches bunk to bunk. Center of gravity will be approx 68 inches from the transom.

-- "On the deadrise angle"... what does that mean? Deadrise angle is a measurement term - it's not something you can "put" something on.
-- 1x5? Unless those are supported underneath by metal, that can't be right. You probably mean 2x6?

Grady does offer specs for bunk placement, but don't get too worried about it. I see hundreds of boats every year at the shop - and have for over 3 decades... along with setting up new trailers for boats. Also, don't get caught up in the "how do I do this for a Grady hull because it's totally different than other hulls". It's not - at least not in what we're talking about.

Assuming you have 2x6's on the flat - that will TOTALLY be fine. Perfect. Adjust them to fit so a lifting strake isn't directly on them and go boating. Done.

Perfect - you're good to go. Since your boat is currently on a trailer, that makes things nice as you pretty easily get your measurements.

"Ideally", the bunks should go on the outboard side of the strakes. It's not imperative to do this - but it does help to center the boat better. Leave about a 1" gap between the vertical edge of the strake and the inboard edge of the 2x.
