I am considering a mechanical fuel gauge on top of fuel tank

Hi, I have a 1983 226 seafarer. A few years ago I replaced the old unreliable electrical sending unit/gauge with a swing arm moller (sp) with a built it gauge.... I had to measure the depth of the tank with a dowel. I then replaced the inspection plate over it with a clear one.... now I can...

Another helm seat question 1983 seafarer 226

I posted some questions awhile back, but encountered some new issues.... I removed original pedestal post, cleaned up and epoxied core to avoid rot. My plan was to reinsert the post with JB weld into the original bracket which is mounted on the underside/inside the box. Unfortunately, I can’t...

    Repowering a 2000 222 fisherman.

Not sure the weight of your 222, but I would consider the G1 Etecs. When I repowerd my 83 226 two years ago, I went with a 150 G1 and love it.... great hole shot, better than the old 200 carb Johnson I took off.... also great in mid range. I save some weight compared to the old motor and it’s...

2 year follow up.... 1983 seafarer and etec 150

I posted a few comments awhile back about my initial experiences with an etec 150 on my 83 226 seafarer. Now with 2 years under my belt, I am still very pleased. It has actually surpassed expectations. I had actually joked with a friend that if I posted pics on THT of my vintage Grady, with...

1983 Seafarer 226, seat pedestal base loose

Thanks Lee, I agree.... going to try to adhere the existing post with JBW etc or maybe buy a new section of aluminum post if I can get the right size. If it doesn’t work, can always remove it later. Mark

1983 Seafarer 226, seat pedestal base loose

Leecoll, Thanks for the input. Did you replace the recessed base bracket , or just the shaft? If you replaced either, did you get them from wise? Thanks

1983 Seafarer 226, seat pedestal base loose

The first photo shows the underneath mounting bracket/sleeve. The bolts were quite loose, so I replaced them and snugged them down, but this didn’t fix the pay in the pedestal shaft. Number 2 & 3 photos show the pedestal shaft with the seat removed. The gap in the fiberglass hole is no more...

1983 Seafarer 226, seat pedestal base loose

Thanks, I’ll take a closer look. The newer style base mounts that look like a flattened cone or flying saucer would be easy to install and perhaps more stable? That said , the old ones have made in 36 years. Unfortunately, my buddies have gained some weight.

1983 Seafarer 226, seat pedestal base loose

I recently had some hefty friends sitting in the passenger Captains chair in rough seas etc. later, I noticed the base of the pedestal shaft was loose where it goes through the fiberglass. The pedestal shafts have the mounting plates inside the “fish box” fiberglass structure..., not sure what...

    8 Month Follow-Up, Etec 150 G1 on 1983 Seafarer

I previously posted some reports from my first few trips out with the new G1 150. As I mentioned before,I was uncertain about the performance I would get from this combination. However, just as in the first few times out, the boat performed awesome.... at least for my goals. I have had it out 4...

1983 Seafarer 226 repower to Etec 150..... no joke!

There are some comparable performance reports on the evinrude library.... Look at the hydra sports 21 walkaround, Henry comparable weight to the vintage 226s

1983 Seafarer 226 repower to Etec 150..... no joke!

UCPA111, Haven’t had it out much since repower, toooooo cold. However, I ran about 50-60 nautical miles in 2-3ft seas with 4 adults and 3 kids and half tank of fuel. The boat got on plane quickly for having no tabs. Guessing I burnt 20 -25 gallons , maybe less. With a full transom, weight will...

1983 Seafarer 226 repower to Etec 150..... no joke!

Very true. It just feels like so much online advice is focus on bigger and faster is better. For some people I’m certain that is true. But I took a little risk and it paid off well with weight, cost, and performance. If Yamaha was still making the HPDIs, I would probably have gone with one of...

1983 Seafarer 226 repower to Etec 150..... no joke!

After everyone puts their eyes back in their sockets ...... finish reading before dismissing. My hope is that this will help vintage Grady owners who are looking to repower. First some background...... my dad was the original owner before turning the boat over to me a few years ago. I rewired...
