THE FINER POINTS OF YAMAHA WATER PUMP REPAIR: QUESTIONS

I have changed mine by following a video on UTube. Very helpful especially when reassembling the watchers and spacers. Be sure to mark your trim tab so you can install it to same place. I put 2 small sawhorses side by side as a way to stabilize the unit. Put engine in gear when you are...

    Great Lakes Question

Have you considered starting in Buffalo or Rochester and heading East into the 1000 Islands? Lots to see and bring your Passport so you can visit any of the several Canadian villages and Provincial Parks, most of which on located on islands.

    Garmin GHP 10 Question

The instructions call for wiring the GHP 10 into the Tachometers, for safety reasons, and I did so. This means that when slow trolling I need to run both motors. Has been a fantastic piece of equipment but I wanted to troll on only 1 motor so I went into the "Dealer Install" software and shut...

which walk around with a full v-berth and stand up head?

Check out an Islander 270. 8.5' beam so no permits required for towing and fits the rest of your criteria. Ours has twin 225f so it is quick enough to get there in a hurry but stil slow enough to troll for Lake Trout.

    Anchor Pulpit

I have been running a Danforth on Islander 270 with no issues. Just be careful when launching so that the anchor does not catch the front roller that butts up just below your bow eye.

    In the market.....help making decision

I have an Islander 270 with twin F225s that tows very well with my diesl pickup. I fish Lake Ontario and yes it can get really nasty at times. Easy to launch and retrieve and no over size permits are required. I used to have a 23' Mako walk around with a 2 stroke 225 and my Grady with twins...

    Si-Tex Autopilot

Not familar with the Si-Tex but I have a Garmin GHP-10 that is fantastic. I'd suggest going with the larger of the two pumps especially if you have twins and slow troll. Tie it into your GPS and you will be very happy you did. Good luck

Best Anchor for a 330 Express

There is a big difference between Danforth shaped anchors and the true Danforth Hi-Tinsel ones. Light for their size and thin so the harder you pull the deeper they go. Works very well for me in a weedy mud bottom. The down side is that when they come up full of seaweed they are a pain to...

Trolling speed with a 225 Yamaha

I do the same kind of fishing you do in Lake Ontario and no way would I invest in a kicker. Drift socks, old mail bags, etc. etc all work real well and don't take up any room, are cheap and there is no maintance. If you are worried about the safety issue of having a second moter I'd suggest...

    Article on Yamaha F225 Engines

I have twin F225's made in 2004 and will be checking this out. Living in Northern New York State our season is limited. If Yamaha altered their warrenty to hours used vs years from date of sale it would be better for everyone involved. With todays cumputer technology this should be easy to...

    Windlass Problem

I have a Lewmar Pro Fish 700 that will not free drop. The clutch is locked up. I have tried penatrating oil and used a 3' bar to try to break it loose. Won't budge. It will power up and down. It appears that to dismantle it I need to back off the clutch and of course that will not work. Any...

    Recomdations for Hand Held VHF

I going to purchase a waterproof hand held VHF. Looking for one that can be recharged aboard the boat in a 12 volt outlet, as I do not have a generator. Quality is very important. I have a fixed mount but want one in the event I go in the water. Any suggestions on make, model and place to...

    surprising handling characteristic 268 islander

I have, on occasion, experienced similar chararistics with our 270 Islander. A combination of motor tilt and trim tab adjustments will cure your issues.

    Brown stain on the hull

The Works or Snobol, bought at Walmart's toilet cleaning section, works great. Using a rubber glove pour some on a clean rag and wipe it on. Wait a minute or two and your stain will be gone.
