Installing freshwater tank in a 1996 Adventure 208

Yes, them be the deals! The screws are sunk into the "shelf" that is molded into the bilge. Maybe you don't have the shelf?

Adventure 208: Removing Gas Filler tube from Gas Tank neck

Well, the tank is coated with (2) heavy coats of two-part epoxy paint: CM15 from Progressive Epoxy Polymers in NH. They have an incredible website for boaters (and it’s super confusing, but chock full). We’re receiving a ton of snow this weekend on the coast, so probably will await Spring for...

Installing freshwater tank in a 1996 Adventure 208

Sorry, I don’t have a pic of the tank installed. The fill neck is plumbed from the port side along with the line going to the fresh water pump mounted on the transom behind the oil tank.

Any do it your selfer out there

As for marine salvage yards, check-out Portland Marine Salvage on Presumpscot St. Jim is a great dude and they’re stripping boats all the time.... it’s fun just walking through the place (with your shopping list). CT

Installing freshwater tank in a 1996 Adventure 208

I have bothe fresh water tank and fuel tank out of my 208 at the moment. Here’s a photo of where the fittings are installed in the water tank. I would also like to add that the worst oxidation on the exterior of the aluminum fuel tank is where the water tank was installed against the fuel tank...

Adventure 208: Removing Gas Filler tube from Gas Tank neck

Hi Dennis - The actual removal (lifting) of the tank wasn’t as difficult as freeing it up! The wood hold-downs / cross bracing between the stringers were toe-screwed with 3” s.s. screws; easy enough to back out and remove the braces. However, the wedges on the side of the tank were also...

Adventure 208: Removing Gas Filler tube from Gas Tank neck

Tank is out. Other than the fact the forward wedges driven between the tank and stringers were screwed in before the cap was places on the hull....had to take my multi-tool and slice through the toed-in screws to remove the wedges, then it was a cinch! (Well almost). Everywhere I read talks...

Adventure 208: Removing Gas Filler tube from Gas Tank neck

OK, I have the fuel tank completely free except for the filler tube attached to the tank neck. I have it freed-up; it turns on the neck nipple, but won’t slide off....won’t budge! Trying not to cut the hose, so I attempted to remove the gas cap filler flange. The filler flange isn’t screwed...

Original Tank?.... and what’s with the bilge draining?

OK imjus, here’s photo showing fresh water tank location behind fuel tank. As for connections, there is the large fill tube (1-1/2”?), a connection for the shower hose and I believe a small vent. I’ll confirm with another shot of the tank; it’s in my shop. CT

Original Tank?.... and what’s with the bilge draining?

OK, I’m on-board with pulling the gas tank now that it’s empty. I like the idea of inspecting the exterior corrosion of the tank bottom and doing what I can to prolong its lifespan! SuzukiDave: coal tar? You mean like automotive undercoating or spray-on bed liner stuff? Also, I understand G/W...

Original Tank?.... and what’s with the bilge draining?

First time owner and first post! Just purchased a 1996 Adventure 208 in need of TLC. So, first order of business, I removed the fuel sender unit and removed 25 gallons of 3 year old fuel. First 5 gallons was pretty milky; I’m not planning on attempting to use any of the 25 gallons. Wow...
