Tools, what do you have on your boat

I'm not so sure. It looks like those sockets don't get very big. I'd wander around your boat and figure out what sizes you need. Another thing, I found for the kicker I needed a 1/4 drive shallow and deep set. The 3/8 sockets were too big to fit in the recessed holes that hold the lower...

    232 Gulfstream being discontinued

I don't think it will sell well, they want $167K for much less of a boat than the 228. I paid $130K out the door with a pacific trailer in 2020.

Islander 268 and Garmin Reactor 40 autopilot

I don't know about rudder gains, what is that?

Islander 268 and Garmin Reactor 40 autopilot

I put a reactor 40 in my 228. I have mixed feelings about it. When it works, it is *awesome*, one of the best upgrades I've done. OK, so the downsides. Don't get shadow drive unless you have power steering. Shadow drive shuts off the auto pilot when it thinks you are steering. I don't have...

Tools, what do you have on your boat

I started a thread about dry bags and part of that was tools. So far, I have a gearwrench socket set, a Milwaukee screw driver with a ton of bits. a med size adjustable wrench. I think I need to up my wrench size so it can do the prop nut, or add a channel locks. Need to add a bunch of tie...

    Seaspension install on a 228

Mine is still breaking in but it's getting better. Ask me at the end of the summer.

What do people use to store stuff that can rust?

Even in my cabin, water gets in from time to time. I store a socket set in there and I have rust on it (still usable but it is telling me I need to do better). One idea is the dry bags that rafters and kayakers use. Anyone have a better idea? I'm thinking: Tool bag Bluefin/bigeye bag...

    232 Gulfstream being discontinued

Peter, I think the big wins of the 232 are weight and twin engines. I would never buy one with a single engine, twins give you more control. Comparing your 208 to the 232 with a single, yeah, not worth it. Against a 232 with twins? Worth it.

    232 Gulfstream being discontinued

That is really disappointing. 208 gone, 228 gone, sorry 218 people, but that boat is a downgrade from those models, the euro transom cuts into your deck space a lot. I can't imagine trying crab from either a 208 or a 218. And now the 232 gone. It sure seems like Grady just wants to sell big...

    GW Freedom - 307 vs 285?

I've been on a Worldcat, not a fan. If that's your other choice, get a Grady. The Worldcat is a sort of lumbering boat that gets crap mpg.

    GW Freedom - 307 vs 285?

If you are getting into that size boat, I'd also consider a cat, like an Invincible. Freeman too, but Invincible has newer tech, I think they are a step ahead of Freeman. I'm friends with a guy who has a Canyon 271 and stepped up to an Invincible 38. He said that pulling away from the dock is...

    new grady

I think you are making the right choice. I'd own a 232 if I could get it to my house but I can't. Narrow twisty road. Be sure to get one with twin engines, much more pleasant to maneuver.

    new grady

There's a guy on here who, with his dad, has owned around 14 different Gradies and the 232 was his favorite. As for the bar, consider doing what I did and replace the hardtop with a custom pilot house: https://www.greatgrady.com/threads/pulling-the-trigger-on-a-pilot-house-on-the-228.37323/

Grady vs Scout in the 27-28' range

I looked at Scout before going with a Grady and I agree with whoever said they seemed like they are lighter built. No disrespect intended, Scout makes a fine boat, I think Grady makes a more dated boat but a tougher boat.

    Not mine but looks good

For what it is worth, when I did my pilot house on my 2020, Peter brought up his 1999 228 and the hard top fit perfectly. The only difference was his fish box lids were thicker and we needed different hardware for that. Other than that, nothing changed in 21 years. So I agree, a 2000 era boat...
