G-W 283 Wet Under The Deck

That 3 foot thingy is probably called "Golden Rod" - they make those a mile from my old house in Oxnard, CA. http://www.drytheair.com/xcart/store/ca ... Watts.html Note that the golden rod and other space heater like it are NOT de-humidifiers as the manufacturers claim. They are the...

    330 express list to port

Good point. I suspect with the livewell full (300+ pounds) the diesel tank full (100 lbs) and the holding tank full (80 lbs) I would be asking why there was a list to starboard. If they were all half full it would likley ride level. I guess thats in part what trim tabs are for.

    ValvTec DeCarb ???

With still air, when I started my 1994 250 there was enough blue smoke that I worried it would bother my neighbors. A cloud of blue smoke about the size of a small motor home would hang in the air. IF the problem is oil delivery the likely scenario (consistent with your lack of blue smoke)...

    ValvTec DeCarb ???

The exploded parts view of your engines oil injection pump system is here. http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Yamah ... parts.html Note that its an entirely mechanical system with NO safety sensors. No pressure sensors, no flow sensors, nothing to prevent an oil delivery system failure from...

    330 express list to port

Any 330 Express owners have a problem with a slight list to port, especially if the main fuel tank is below 50%? List is both at anchor and while planing. I can get the boat level while at anchor with my full weight on the startboard gunwall. chris

    ValvTec DeCarb ???

blue smoke or white steam on that "good" motor? Are the 1990 engines oil injected? The fact the "bad" motor does not smoke on startup is of concern - I am pretty sure that the startup smoke is caused by oil injection and if you are not seeing it I would be concerned your oil flow is impaired.

G-W 283 Wet Under The Deck

hi Geost - greetings from neighboring Beaufort SC. I have had the same mold (yup, that black stuff is mold) problem on both my Gradys and if it makes you feel any better, I had the same problem when my Grady was stored on a lift at my house in southern California in a area considered to be...

Ethanol blended gas is BAD, BAD, BAD!

Local Yamaha tech told me someone sells a widget that is made specifically for tank cleaning. You put a hose into the fuel sender opening and it sprays gas at high pressure randomly around the interior of the tank - like if you let a high pressure fire hose go it dances around on its own. A...

How to clean and degrease engine

I pressure wash the engine when its hot with a not to agressive pressure washer tip on a small electric pressure washer. After it dries I spray the entire engine down liberally with BoeShield http://www.boeshield.com/ . I love that stuff! Engine stays looking like new. On older Yamahas (and...

    Fuel consumption based on flowscan

My twin 2004 F225's run at about 1-1.2 mile/gallon or about 35-38 GPH at WOT. So your numbers for older 225 two strokes do not sound too far out of line. 1 month of growth in RI could also be meaningful.

Ethanol blended gas is BAD, BAD, BAD!

Disposal of old fuel was one of my problems as well. If I decided to drain the old fuel what do I do with 150 gallons of old gas? For now it looks like I will get away with using it up as decribed in earlier posts. Good luck! Chris

    Water intrusion???? 228 Seafarer

    1) the bilge pumps are not perfect and even if you run them until they completely stop pumping water there may be a few gallons left in the bilge. You can test the bilge pumps in your driveway. Put a garden hose into your bilge and turn it on full and see if the pump periodically turns on...

Ethanol blended gas is BAD, BAD, BAD!

Better that your filters clog vs the problems I have been having where the varnish is so dissolved its passing through my filters resulting in seized fuel pumps. 1) get an automotive after market fuel pump - I bought one online for $60. 2) plumb the pumps inlet in after your spin on filter...

Ethanol blended gas is BAD, BAD, BAD!

Agree varnish is not corrosive. I let a sample of gas from my tank evaporate and what was left was a golden sticky residue - likely varnish. So my best guess is that if that fuel is run through the engine and then the engine is left to sit (36 hours was the record minimum) that the fuel pump...

Ethanol blended gas is BAD, BAD, BAD!

Final (hopefully!) update. I brought the seized pump on the starboard engine back to life without having to pull the pump. The pump's hot lead can be accessed at it's fuse block, and by using a standalone 12V battery I was able to alternately pulse the pump forward (regular power polarity) and...

Ethanol blended gas is BAD, BAD, BAD!

The problem is not sucking up whats at the bottom of the tank. I had the same argument with the Service tech. Whats at the bottom of the tank is: (1) water bonded to ethenol. This is the 1st stage of phase seperation (2) water, after it has bonded with all the available ethanol in the...
