    Steering wheel cap removal

update on wheel nut removal: The reason I needed to remove my wheel was it was loose; fore and aft, on the shaft. e.g. you could pull it toward you, which made a metal to metal click. Gap was probably close to 1/16". Today, I got the (missing) nylon spacer/washer that should have been under the...

    Steering wheel cap removal

There is actually a special nylon box wrench that is supplied by the company who makes the wheel. Without that tool, I'm going to try pull a rubber strap (think strap-wrench) tightly around the nut, and closing a large crescent wrench over the rubber. I'm hoping that will work. My wheel seems...

    Steering wheel cap removal

I'd like to know, too. My wheel has slight end play; e.g. if I pull up on the wheel, it moves about a thirty-second of an inch. It's not the shaft moving, it is the wheel moving on the shaft. Maybe that cap just pulls off?

    Sleeping on a Dual Console?

That definitely looks possible. I just browsed the Grady models in an email I received today. Really comfortable looking boat, and I'm betting the ride is awesome. https://www.gradywhite.com/models/dual-consoles/freedom-325/

    Marine head upgrade.

The port and starboard insulated fish boxes are not removable liners, they're part of the moulded fiberglass hull liner, so no access there. I don't think adding a below-deck holding tank is in the cards, and it really doesn't matter, since the PP choices seem to be fine. In fact, I finally got...

    Marine head upgrade.

Dennis, I just saw your post after I replied to glacierbaze. I'm sure I was confusing the holding tank terminology, and yes, you and glacierbaze are correct; it's just a PP to a deck fitting. I'm going to get on the boat in a while, and look at access to those areas. Not sure I have room to even...

    Marine head upgrade.

Glacierbaze, Thank you for your insight. What you are saying makes sense, and now I think I was reading Grady's options list, and making up my mind that I have a 10 gal tank, when really, as you correctly pointed out, that was not one of their options. I couldn't imagine only a small porta potti...

    Marine head upgrade.

Glacier... All good info you provided, but I have the 2012 models booklet in my hand, and under options for marine head, it shows one you did not list. The Grady book for a 255 Freedom shows: 1. Marine head with electric flush, 10 gallon.. 2. Marine head with macerator, 10 gallon holding tank &...

    Marine head upgrade.

Thanks. All good comments and suggestions. Yes, the 2012 Freedom 255 was available in 5 marine head options, and Dennis is correct in that the one I have, is factory plumbed to a holding tank, below deck, port side . Holding tank plumbed to a SS pump-out fitting on port side gunnel. Here's the...

    Marine head upgrade.

Thanks, and good suggestions Dennis & Seasick. To me, the reason I like overboard discharge is, the head is actually seldom used, but when it is, it's primarily the ladies, to relieve their bladder. Rarely ever needed a macerator, and with only liquid in the tank, and not much of that, it seems...

    Confusing Battery switches

I hear ya... when things change, it doesn't always make sense. So I don't know this to be fact, but in just looking at the switches, and thinking it over, my opinion is that when the OFF, 1, 2 switch is on either 1 or 2 position, that is the only battery that is powering the system. But when it...

    Marine head upgrade.

My 255 Freedom (2012) has a factory installed marine head that looks much like a porta-potty, but plumbed to a holding tank (no macerator and no thru-hull discharge). There is a deck pump-out, so tank could be emptied at a pump-out facility. Most of our use is beyond the 3 mi limit for...

Looking for nav light - Freedom 255.

The LED matrix is sealed in plastic, with a moulded in Fresnal lens. Voltage to the lamp assembly is correct, and connector pins clean. I placed an order at the ebay link you provided (thanks again), and I couldn't put it in the cart at first. Reason is the seller is away, and shipping will be...

Looking for nav light - Freedom 255.

Yes, I think I found the same one, but this one is no longer available. https://www.westmarine.com/buy/attwood--series-3500-base-mount-led-starboard-2nm-navigation-light--9034505 Do you know of a good source? on edit: looks like there may be a few places that still have them. Thanks for your reply.

Looking for nav light - Freedom 255.

This new-to-me 2012 Freedom 255 has a dead nav light. I removed it today, and measured the voltage at the light, and it was 12.8V, so the LED is burned out. Port side works great, but I may replace them both, when I find the source. And that leads me to my question; anyone here know the brand...

    Re-Power Islander 270

If it were mine, I would re-power with the 200 Yamaha 4 cyl. They are really nice engines, and that Islander will like them just fine.

    Mice !

Look closely to see if there is access to the cabin area from under the gunnels. I seem to remember 25 or 30 years ago, of a critter getting into the cabin on either an Overnighter or Explorer, and there was a actually forward access from this area. Check both sides. I put a heavy mesh wire...
