    1990 242g offshore w/twin 135 opti's ?

I had an 85 Offshore and I loved the boat. Enormous cockpit, deep gunnels and big fish box's. Had it out to the Baltimore canyon, (70 miles) and plenty of trips beyond 50 miles. I also had 2 Overnighters, (both non Sea V2 hulls) and imo, they were very good too. Are the Sea V hulls better...

Do I need zincs on my trim tabs?

I just spoke with someone about those. I don't want to say who or where... but, they confirmed my fears. They recommended using the rudder type zincs.

Do I need zincs on my trim tabs?

Camp does have zincs specifically for Bennett tabs - http://www.boatzincs.com/bennett-trim-t ... e-kit.html I've never used these, and I wonder if the mounting screws would become lose, after the zincs start to wear. They use the same screws, (only longer) that attach the plane to the plastic...

Do I need zincs on my trim tabs?

If you have, or add zincs... what about grounding, (bonding) the tabs? I would think it would be necessary for the zincs, (anodes) to work properly... yes/no?

Anybody gotten the new Raymarine S1000 Auto pilot?

Yes. I commented about the power button, back on page 1; "If you do any web searching about the s1000, your sure to find people complaining about it, and rightly so... it's big and it's ugly! It's been referred to as the "ronald mcdonald" switch, lol. Just use any on-board switch that's...

    Trailer Hookup

The fifth wire, (blue wire on the trailer connector) is for de-activating the trailer brakes, (when backing up). As cdwood said, it connects to your vehicles reverse lights. Simplest thing to do... get one of these - http://www.etrailer.com/p-47515/Adapter ... orter.html

    YAMAHA FUEL GUAGE

Or..... BAD GAUGE! Again... your fuel gauge is an ohm meter. If it's bad.... guess what you're gona need... an OHM METER! And how would you check "bad ground, bad wire's"? Wait for it.... wait for it.... An OHM METER! One more time.... your fuel gauge is an ohm meter. As Freddy063...

    YAMAHA FUEL GUAGE

Agree 100%. That's what the fuel gauge is!!!... an ohm/volt meter... and the sending unit is a variable resister. Basically, the fuel gauge, (meter) shows the position of the float on the sending unit. How else would you check it, if not with an ohm meter? Here's a...

Power for an Off Shore 24.5 ft

    Catch 22...

Yea Bill.... I got it... all is fine. Sorry I didn't reply. Yes... we got hit again this past Tuesday/Wednesday. The official total was around 15 1/2 inch's, (Phil. area). Some area's to the north and west of Phila. got more, (up to 26 inch's). I'm about 35 miles southwest of Philly...

Anybody gotten the new Raymarine S1000 Auto pilot?

Re: raymarine S1000 Like Bama said, the S1000 is for hydraulic steering. It will not work with mechanically steered boats. You need a "rotary" auto pilot. Raymarine used to have a rotary ap, it was called the "Sport Pilot". It was pretty cheap, ($) too. But, to be honest, I don't know how...

    i think i got a good deal!

Wow!... Considering that the 50's cost are around $550-600, (new)... and the 80 is around $750-800, (that's $3000 for just the reels)... I'd say you got a great deal. :D

Anybody gotten the new Raymarine S1000 Auto pilot?

Bama... I didn't realize you were going with an adjustable deadrise transducer. I thought it was a flat, puck type. Unless I'm misunderstanding the directions, I don't think that model would work out sitting in the middle, on a flat, even keel. I don't think you can adjust it all the way down...

    Center Hydraulic cylinder leaking

Here's a parts diagram link for your motor - http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Yamah ... parts.html Check it out and decide if it's something you want to mess with. Lot's of seals and o rings. The 2 outer cylinders are for "trim"... the single inner cylinder is for "tilt". Question...

Anybody gotten the new Raymarine S1000 Auto pilot?

Re: Progress The in hull transducer needs to be facing, (shooting) straight down, so it needs to be on center and on a flat area. Is there enough room to mount it right in front of the float switch? If not, (like you said, it looks tight) you might have to move your bilge pump and float...

Power for an Off Shore 24.5 ft

Re: Offshore 24 ... power Owners manual - http://www.gradywhite.com/customer/cata ... s/1980.pdf Max hp is 280. If it were me, I'd go for a 250 E-tec. If it has to be a 4 stroke, my second choice would be the 250 Suzuki, (250 and 225 weigh the same). The scuppers on Grady's...

    YAMAHA FUEL GUAGE

Agree with OnoEric... could very well be a stuck or bad sending unit, but check all the connections. Here's a link for your 97 owners manual, (click on Spirit) - http://www.gradywhite.com/customer/manu ... ected=1997 The sending unit has a single pink wire on it that feeds up to the fuel...

Anybody gotten the new Raymarine S1000 Auto pilot?

By the way Bama, you might want to use a terminal strip for the nmea connections. Imo, it beats twisting a bunch of wires together. Something like this - http://www.radioshack.com/product/index ... Id=2103982 Crimp-on spade terminals for the wires - http://www.radioshack.com/product/index...

Anybody gotten the new Raymarine S1000 Auto pilot?

A few years back I asked one of Garmin's service techs about this. Basically, he said Garmin units could support up to 3 nmea 0183 devices. I actually ended up connecting 4 - vhf/dsc, radar, ff and autopilot... and it worked fine. Just for the heck of it, I did a "faq" search on Garmin's...

Power for an Off Shore 24.5 ft

In that case, I would go with the 225. Offshore models of that vintage were available in 3 different versions... a regular notched transom, (model 240) an i/o, (model 241) and the Sea Drive version, (model 242). Here's a link to grady's 1985 catalog, (pdf) -...
