    It's official - 228 is no more :-(

I bought a 228 New back in 2006. Loved everything about it and kinda regret selling it as I moved up to a 265 then to a 330 Express. When people talk to me about boats and Grady-Whites - I often reply "The only boat better than a Grady-White is a BIGGER Grady-White" And while I have no plans...

    Water Heater Overheating

"I’m going to put a 6 inch piece of heater hose directly on the water heater outlet." >>>>> I did this and recall it still blew off (2nd time). The very hot water goes well past 6 inches. What worked for me was double hose clamps. The new T-stat and breaker can't hurt anything. My hot...

    Water Heater Overheating

Same thing happened to me a while back (2006 330). I thought it was a loose hose clamp. Then it happened again. While fishing, with all the ambient noise, the hose popped off and I didn't hear the pump running endlessly. Filled my bilge and soaked part of my aft berth with 40 gallons of...

Inspecting and Cleaning Original Fuel Tanks in 2002 Grady 330

Great job USMM. What you, Black Pig and FSC did is what we all should do once every 10 (?) years. I FW rinse my tanks annually and have changed out those leaky push in inspection caps with Beckson screw in types. This helps keep my tanks dry but it's what we don't see that matters most. Only...

    330 Battery Set Up

If you didn't have a generator, I would for sure do what you have in mind. I would simply keep everything stock and run your generator more often. This is both good for your on board electronics and the generator itself. If you're doing an offshore overnight trip, your generator should of...

    Questions/concerns about possibly purchasing a 228 Seafarer...

I think you have made the right decision. There are other boats out there with Sellers who really want to sell their boat. I'd extend your search to a Gulf Stream as well. For both the Seafarer and Gulf Stream, if you can find one from the Great Lakes (Freshwater) that would be a huge plus in...

    Questions/concerns about possibly purchasing a 228 Seafarer...

Regardless of the engine, a 1999 Hull is just too old for me. Just sayin. Is it a SeaVee2? I don't think so.

Posting of my Grady 330 transom cap replacement, shims, transom drains, scuppers

Very well done there Mike! I especially like what you did with that black starboard at your engine mount bolts. Thanks for posting...

    Cruising RPM's?

And here's a short story speaking of operating at W.O.T. RPM's When I was evaluating my boat to be purchased (319 hours 10.5 years ago), I hired a Surveyor to check on the Engines (twin F250's on a 2006 330 Express). After checking all the basic stuff (oil, electrical charge, etc.), he took it...

    Cruising RPM's?

2006 330 Express with F250's & 4 blades 16" pitch. 2,200 hours and counting. I cruise at 4,300 RPM's doing 22-24 knots. Maybe 4,400-4,500 if I'm heavy with full fuel. I do not like running at WOT (5,700 RPM) and do so once in a while just to be sure it can do it. The GPH at WOT scares me!

    2006 330 Express

Over 2,200 hours on the F250's and my FP Genset still running great at 758 hours. Love the layout of this boat!

    Cut, buff, wax.

KY - Nice outcome but it is far better for your gelcoat to not have to do any wet sanding. Just my two cents. Here is my 16 year old 330 Express - photo from yesterday. Twice a year she gets 3M Cleaner Wax for lightly oxidized surfaces then sealed with Collinite Fleet Wax. This boat will...

330 express with 300 Mercury four strokes

I have not but I think the 300 V8 Mercs are an excellent choice. Made in USA and easy to work on (per my Mechanic). I have heard nothing but good things about them.

    Replacement Bang Cap sealant?

Fishtales (above) nailed it. Well said - sealing a wet transom is lipstick on a Pig. Eventually, one must deal with the root issue... That said, Grady's transoms are so thick and so strong, depending on the extent of moisture, a transom failure may either take a long time or frankly never...

    AIS systems

I've had mine for over ten years. Class B Transponder. They work great. Ships have Class A (20 watt signal). Most Class B's transmit at 2 watts. So, You will see the Ship long before the Ship will see you on their plotter. I recommend AIS to all who may navigate in fog or at night -...

No inverter on my 330. Why need one when you have the FP? (which I use all the time).

Transom Rebuild - The Saga Begins

They might (?) cover a bit of it and ask you to sign an NDA. Regardless, you are doing the right thing. I'm thinking the expansion and contraction of freezing water/ice contributed to the issue. I bet all Gradys (and other brands) over 10 years old with wood transoms are wet to some degree...

    33 express rocket launcher Pedestal

The one that I have seems to have been discontinued by Birdsall Marine. I have a rectangular shaped Table that is I'd say 2X the size of this item in the below link. If you notice, at the base, three large allen head bolts removes it. It has a separate mounting plate that you through bolt...
