Storing Batteries on Concrete? Yeah or Nay?

I’ve been leaving mine in place on the boat with Deltran battery tenders hooked up. I make sure the terminals are clean and tight. The boats has a canvas cover over it and is parked under a carport. I’ve been storing it this way for years. I did have to replace one of the batteries last year but...

Trailering - motors up or down?

There are more complicated and expensive solutions but simple is usually best.

Trailering - motors up or down?

If you use just the block and hit a really good bump hard yes. But I used an old mower belt to make this. Works perfect.

Trailering - motors up or down?

I trim mine up then lower it back down on a 2x4 to take the strain off the hydraulics and to keep it from bouncing. I drilled a hole at each end and ran an old fan belt thru the holes to make a loop to be able to hang it in place until the motor pinches it in place. This keeps the engine kicked...

Trailer guide poles or bunks ?

I used the fender on my old trailer to till it got so rusty I about ripped it off. ;) The new trailers fenders clearly aren’t meant for that. You can get something like this tossed in the bed of your truck.

Trailer guide poles or bunks ?

On mine I just use the swim platform ladder. The real trick for getting in and mostly out is off the bow when you’ve just motored up and need to get off, hook and pull the rig up the ramp. The high bows Grady’s have can make that move dicey at best.

    cost of trailer

I recently picked up a Loadrite elite aluminum I-beam trailer for my 20’ Overnighter. Led lights, main and front target bunks, guide poles, radial tires, dual axles with torsion suspension and brakes on both axles. Stainless brake lines, spare radial tire with mount. The trailer uses a five pin...

Trailer guide poles or bunks ?

I wondered about that. figured if on some ramps if you went deep enough to float on could the stern drift over the side bunks? That won’t happen with poles. I sometimes launch in the Delaware River. Most ramps there have you contending with a side currant. Doesn’t matter if you have a roller or...

    Deck storage under the helm

Mines always wet when Im fishing as I’m using the wash down hose to remove fish slime or those damned clear skate spines off the deck. Those things are hell on barefeet. When my cabin door is propped open you can’t lift the hatch. With the big 225 weighing down the transom I wondered if that...

    Deck storage under the helm

Do you use it for anything? Seems like wasted space.

    Deck storage under the helm

Those who have this hatch and storage under the helm what do you store in yours? This seems wet and access to it is awkward at best. I have my Overnighter some 7 years and I barely if ever get in there. I’ve been storing a bucket and extra castnets sometimes there but that’s about it. Thinking...

Trailer guide poles or bunks ?

I have an ‘87 Overnighter and bought this trailer about a year ago. The guide poles are a godsend! You center the boat on the trailer and adjust the poles so they just touch the rub rail. Then when you retrieve the boat you sink it deep enough that the stern is just barely floating as the bow is...

My boat is at that age

34 years on my ‘87 Overnighter and it’s still original. Is that a generic part?

    Anchor line

That looks pretty nice and with that length of chain it has the holding power of twice a given length of line with only a five foot chain.

    Anchor line

I have 1/2 anchor line and have to be careful how I feed it back into the box because there’s so much in there if I don’t feed it in off to the sides I can’t get the anchor shaft in. I think I only have used half of what line is in there at most but I’d guess it’d be better than 200’. I should...

Hey it’s only an 18 (inches) but it could get you started ;) I’m pretty sure the check should cover it. :)

    1986 overnighter dash wiring

Pay attention to wire gauge size. If in doubt go larger in diameter. Covering wire connections with liquid electrical tape with shrink tube or with shrink tube that has sealant will save you issues and from having to redo it down the road. A salt environment is tough on electrics in a boat.

1985 208 Overnighter fuel tank dimensions

Guessing the size of the tank was increased in ‘88 or ‘89. I went digging thru my records and found the original brochure for the ‘87 Overnighter which lists the tank at 65 gal. The PO had it at 75 in his classified ad but it’s 65 for my year. I thought I had a schematic but if I did I can’t...
