I have Burnewiin mounts on my 228. They have a down rigger adaptor that is perfect and you just use your rod gunnel mounts. Check them out, nicest I have seen yet.

I own a 228 and fish regularly on a 258. The cabin space is not that much bigger than the 228, a few inches wider and about 6" longer. Not a lot of creature comforts on a 258, but it is a good day cruiser.

I think you got lucky having a full survey. The water line marks at the stern would have me concerned. You will find one, you just have to be patient...

You should check out Burnewiin rod holder and downrigger mounts. They are amazing products and they keep you gunwale super clean. I have them on my 228 and could not be happier, and congrats on your new boat.

You're correct, not a requirement. I always say unless you like bobbing for white shark, it may not be a bad investment.
