    ROOKIE MISTAKE...Now What?

Re: Big Problem? Escape 209 As far as bad goes it's a 8.5. You're looking at a new to you motor (it'll cost more to fix than it's worth), every electronic device that was turned on may be wiped, and I'd check all the wiring in the boat. It's not the first time something like that happened but...

    Bow Pulpit Project

Yea, the glass isn't going to stick to the PT. What you do have is an excellent form to make a mold for the new pulpit. The other option since you're good with wood is to make it out of Teak and leave it natural.

Newbie in need of boat buying advice - considering Grady

I'm thinking the Sailfish is smallest for you, maybe up to a Marlin. You're in Florida and they seem to be lax about the laws, I've seen some crazy big boats being trailered and if need be get the permits. With 4 divers and their equipment anything less than the 28 will be cramped. Yes the 23...

24' Tournament spring refresh (very pic heavy)

Nice job! Next time you re-caulk the hatch lay masking tape on the edges, it makes a lot easier.

    255 freedom with 500 hp ( advise please )

I'd check the laws but in most places that plate isn't worth the brass it's stamped on. Just because you take away from the max occupency it doesn't mean you aren't going to mess around with the boat's handling with the extra weight hanging off the transom, not to mention the extra stress on...

    255 freedom with 500 hp ( advise please )

While you may get the 255 up to 60 you're probably going to wish you didn't. It'll get unstable and make it very easy for bad things to happen rather quickly. My Sailfish will get up around 50 with twin 200's, I can't see why you would need 225's on an Islander (I'll make and exception for the...

    Wet Transom

Where is it wet? What year? At the very least the source of the leak should be fixed, they never get better. The drain isn't sealed at the factory and eventually it's going to allow water to seep up up. Eventually you're going to have to address the transom but depending where and how bad it...

    1988 259 Trophy Pro **Restoration**

I started reading the thread on THT, you sure have your work cut out. As far as the lead ballast, I think Len (Finest Kind) removed the lead and went with a flotation bracket.

Transom repair on Sailfish or Marlin with Eurotransom

There are pluses to both ways. If they were going to pour then outside is the way to go. To replace with a wood or composite core then it depends on how the stringers and knees are and your final glassing skills. Many times a rotten transom will go into the stringers a little so you're...

MAX HP ON MY 1983 GRADY

Weren't the ratings gross not net in '83? 280 gross is less than 250 net, I'd go over everything (transom, strigers, knees,...) before hanging a 250 on the back. A 250 4 stroke will give more top end but the same or possibly less holeshot than the 225 2 stroke. Plus how does it sit now with...

    Zirk Fittings

Some can be a real @@#$. The fitting for the shift linkage under the powerhead was real tight to get on and when I got it on it wouldn't come off. I wound up unscrewing the fitting and taking the hose off the grease gun. Even with the hose in a vice I couldn't get the fitting out.

    barrier coat and bottom paint

If you're not in the water year-round, it's a toss-up but if you do decide to do it later it'll cost more to strip off everything.

    Gulfstream Verado 250 install

The single 250 Verado is still less than twins, you'll sit lower but I wouldn't worry. Were you happy with the performance of a single 250?

Opinions on Penn setups is this a deal I can't pass up?

What do you want to fish for? and how? If you're going stand-up you don't need more than a 50 spooled with braid. Given the choice I'd go 2 speed with anything over 30's, just because it's not a problem for me others on the boat may not be able to handle it.

    gelcoat repair question ?

Is the hull the same color in all the areas patched? Some areas may have oxidized more than others. The pigment in the gell may have not been mixed in leaving the top whiter than the rest. The hardener would only make it kick faster unless they really overdid it. It's possible the gell is...

Getting ready to install my new fuel tank

While the tank is out, put a coat of coal tar epoxy on it before you install. It may last 15-20 years without the epoxy coating but it is insurance against corosion. If you're in the business to sell gas tanks would you recommend anything to lessen your future sales? The fuel lines are a ___...
