Transom repair on Sailfish or Marlin with Eurotransom

There are pluses to both ways. If they were going to pour then outside is the way to go. To replace with a wood or composite core then it depends on how the stringers and knees are and your final glassing skills. Many times a rotten transom will go into the stringers a little so you're chopping them up anyway so inside is better. If you know the stringers and knees are solid then and you are ok with a lot of sanding and faring then go through the outside. You have more of a choice with the eurotransom models, the old style Sailfish with a bracket are a major pain to do from the inside.

Does the Sailfish aluminum bracket look like this Marlin one or is it smaller? I have 5 deck plates on my transom so I have plenty of visibility but I don't see the two pieces of angle that bolt into the stringers - am I supposed to have that in my 1994 Sailfish? I know the transom in this new-to-me boat was replaced in 2006. My stud finder is sensing metal under the fiberglass cap at the front of the transom so there is apparently some aluminum there but I am definitely not seeing the angle pieces that are supposed to bolt to the stringers.
