    Through Hull Transducer Install...

Thanks for this detailed write up, even with the caulk tangent! I am about to do this exact same install with the same transducer on my 268. it seems that the arbor of the hole saw just goes into the old transducer and acts a guide? Is this correct?

Replacing orignal dome light with LEDs

You don’t need to swap out the switches if they still click well. Mine were 20 years old. For the bulbs just take the number from the label inside the fixture and look at west marine. They have compatibility tables. It’s very easy. The base of the bulbs are identical if they are incandescent or...

Replacing orignal dome light with LEDs

I just did this to mine. Replaced the digikey switches and added led bulbs from west marine. I used blue and a white bulbs. Works great and switches the dome lights and spreaders, which are also led.

    97 Grady 232 Gulfstream Repower

Get a 300 from any brand that make one. 25”. Then mount it at the optimal height. Get the prop right and you should be set. That boat is wide and short. It needs a 300 min. It must be set up right which takes time. Trial and error.

"New to me" 2000 263 Chase - few questions

As an owner of a 268 islander that was just repowered, you really want at least twin 150s on that boat. No less and not a single. These are big hulls that need balanced power of twins. Twin 200s are ideal. Rigging twins is not that difficult. It will take time but is worth it.

    Islander control cable lengths?

Thank you sir. I’ve decided to replace them since it’s still winter! The first set lasted 22 years so it’s time.

    Islander control cable lengths?

1999 islander twin f 150. I’ve search every exposed portion for cable lengths for both port and starboard. Does anyone know them? My guess is two 22’ and two 24’?

2002 282 switch panel New Wire

The wire arrangement on the panels is good and robust. It’s all the wire routing that goes from there that is a mess. It’s hard to chase, it’s hard to clean, it’s bundled with sharp zip ties and typically all the insulation is full of tape residue. I have replaced a lot of wires just for cleanup

    Float switch

Whatever you do, don’t order a Rule knock off that looks like a rule on Amazon. The knock offs are junk. My rules work great. I keep them clean. One of them is 20 years old and works flawlessly.

Trailer guide poles or bunks ?

I would never leave the boat alone when it’s in gear. I’ve seen some real good panic events when people leave the boat when it’s in gear. 79th st, black point, dinner key....

Trailer guide poles or bunks ?

Power loading is the way to go. Put the trailer in fully to wet all bunks, then pull it out part way. Then power load it on to the guide bunks I have a strong aft wind at my ramps and if you don’t stick the load the first time, get ready to spin. Make sure your trailerbunks are high enough...

    Gulfstream

That boat is wide. I would go with a set of twin 150s. That is a balanced choice between cost, operability, and resale. Plus you won’t regret it. I have seen so many people under power boats and as they get more confident with the use and take bigger trips they begin to see the limitations...

    Repower

Depends on the condition of the hull and if it fits your needs. It is not the seav2 hull which I believe rides better. You also have to check the transom, the electrical wiring, the rigging and your budget. If you like the boat, is in good shape and is safe, i would repower it. I have had boats...

    1999 islander scupper hoses.

I agree with fish tales regarding the addition of four strokes being the primary cause. I am very close to getting my scuppers above the waterline completely when the boat is at rest and lightly loaded. I have tested it fully loaded and there is no water coming up the drains so I am happy about...
