Repowering 1990 sailfish with yamaha 200 four strokes

I'll bet you need to drop to a 17" or possibly lower. The 4 strokes really like rpm...

    First engine mistake, how bad?

None. I make sure to fresh water flush every single one of my engines every single year as part of the annual winterize process. 45 years running this way and no problems yet...

What size boat before it changes how you boat?

I had a 17 GlasPly that was a very nice boat for crabbing, fishing, etc., but when I went to the 226 my boating changed dramatically. All of a a sudden it was no big deal to be gone all day and run 35-70 miles. Total game changer I tell you! 8^)

    272 Sailfish power

Yeah, F225s are about the same. Plenty of power. More than you need if you aren't going to pull waterskiers. 8^)

    272 Sailfish power

4 cylinder 200 or 6? Mine has 2005 F225s with lots of power. The 4cyl 200 saves a lot of weight.

    1996 272 Sailfish Questions

Those are nice - strong and light. The newer 200 4strokes would be a great repower some day...

226/228 owners - do you pull the plug?

I ran my 226 for four years and I swear the bilge pump never turned on. That was the driest boat I’ve never seen.

    Enclosure thoughts

My 272 got no "no faces at all" front panels for the reason cited above - better view. I use the little pivoting side windows for ventilation, but I'm not in a hot climate....

    Replacement seats for Seafarer 228G

When I bought my 226 the seats were garbage, so I bought these as replacements: http://www.toddusa.com/productdetails.aspx?id=262&f=14 They were of excellent quality, and I had no complaints - IMO these are very similar to the stock seats... /// Sorry - I didn't realize you are only looking...

    1996 272 Sailfish Questions

I find my 3.3L 225s to be TONS of power and reasonably light weight. l could pull as many waterskiers as I wanted. I get 1.8-1.9 mpg @ 28-30 mph. Amazing motors. Be conscious of how much weight you add when you repower.

    1996 272 Sailfish Questions

If you do end up repowering, you'll find that 4 strokes are the way to go. Far quieter, significantly better gas mileage. Enjoy that thing!!

    Transom damage 272???

Those SWS don't clock the run time, huh? Interesting - thanks, I didn't know that...

Whats the best Grady of all time?

I like the bracket because you get 2-3 feet of free cockpit. Bailing well - gone and solid transom. Add that to the outbacker length for increased effective boat length seems like a total win. That's why I think the 232 is probably huge compared to my 226 - probably feels more like 25'. I'm not...

    Transom damage 272???

Looks very clean to me but as others have said, you need a hull survey where they tap on it to have actual knowledge of the condition.

Whats the best Grady of all time?

I spent 4 fantastic seasons on a 226 Seafarer, which I loved - I'd buy a 228 instead if I could go back but that isn't how it works. That said, now that I have the 272 Sailfish dialed in, I have to say that I like it better. 9.5' beam is unbelievably cool. The one that really has my attention...

    Fuel caps leaking

Been there, done that. I had too much fuel in mine prior to launch this year as well. Makes a mess, had to pump some out.

Steering on my 2007 Seafarer has some play at slow speeds.

I think (without verification of fittings) that the one below is the modern equivalent of what mine has, but I'm planning to have the existing one rebuilt this off season...
