Considering an older Marlin. Any advice is appreciated!

I've owned a GW 28 footer (272) for almost 6 months now, and I love it. But even in this short time I'm convinced that the work will never end. There is always going to be something that needs love. It IS a big boat to trailer (and as you said required a special permit), but as long as you have...

Need advice on buying a Grady

If you are serious about water skiing, you will want to be well powered. That's 250hp minimum on a 226/228.

Tired of squeezing the old balls...

"If the pumps delivered more fuel than the motor could consume, where did that extra fuel go:)" that is exactly what I was asking. It's only momentary and then as I said it resumes to indicating the correct amount, but there is obviously room to put a little bit of fuel in there somewhere...

Tired of squeezing the old balls...

Thanks for the input, guys. These pumps are rated at 30 gpm each, so no worries about flow restriction. The fact that they show exaggerated consumption at high throttle proves that they can easily deliver more than the motor can consume. So I'm not worried about damage in that regard...

    Embarrassing!

I agree - yes they do. And maybe I am too. But to me the average American and what is "normal" is getting scarier by the day....

    Update on 272 Restoration...

Goodness Gracious! I finally wound it all the way up today, and hit 6100 rpms and sustained ~45.6 mpg SOG. Purring like kittens - like they had more to give. WOW - what fantastic old motors! All they needed was a major "spa day" and now they get to be used the way they were designed to be -...

Tired of squeezing the old balls...

Made you look! ;) During my rebuild I discovered that both of my fuel priming bulbs were shot, so instead of buying new ones I opted to replace them with little line pumps. They were half the price of Atwood bulbs and work like a charm - they're both on one switch, so I flip it for a few...

    Embarrassing!

The stories said exactly that - that they needed to control the landing zone, but were unprepared. Still, your drone won't help the fire service when you fly it near the wildland blaze, and IMHO, it's a great idea to steer well clear of any quasi-governmental agency (SpaceX, NASA, etc) that is...

    Embarrassing!

I pulled up one of the news stories about the "rocket scientist" private parties that approached the freshly landed SpaceX capsule, and right in front was a Grady White. Very bad idea - please be smart people...

    Update on 272 Restoration...

Aaaahhh YES!! 4 short weeks later and she's running like a dream. All I had to do was: - Suck out fuel and clean tanks - Replace all fuel filters and separators - VSTs cleaned and rebuilt (seal, filters, o-ring) - Replace 4 fuel pumps (fortunately OEM are a fraction of the cost of...

Grady White - Help with Model Choices

Anyone else think a bowrider is more of a "fair weather" boat? In the Pacific NW, I wouldn't consider one without hardtop and cuddy, but around here it's rarely hot and frequently windy and chopped up. The amount of time folks spend riding on the front of mine has historically been very limited...

Removing 12v Fridge. UPDATE: New Cabinet Installed w Pics

I did it too. It was Phillips screws, so what you describe was mostly it - IIRC. There might have been a set of l-channels holding it in too, but I honestly can't remember. That means it was easy. I clamped/supported and left the power lead in place. On mine it was powered whenever the...

Seafarer 226 prop size with 200hp 2 stroke

You should definitely try a 4 blade. I'm sure somebody will soon post the Grady-White propeller wizard's phone number, but it sounds like maybe something in the neighborhood of a 15 x 16 4 blade might be an option...

    Re-doing Bolsters

I bought a sewing machine from Sailrite after fighting a "heavy duty" Singer for weeks on end. Walking foot works like a dream - goes through 8x Sunbrella and 40mil isinglass like it's not there... I think that most expensive ingredient may be the foam. It certainly is for cushions. When I...

    Update on 272 Restoration...

Thank you. I love it so far. Super stable and comfortable, albeit at slow speed... I posted above that I should have cleaned out the fuel tanks before running it (Negotiated condition of sale was that is shipped to me empty!), so now I have 180 gallons of gas in barrels and am the proud owner...
