    RPM's Jumping up

As noted above check the prop. The hub may be spinning. Do you have fouling on the prop?

    1989 Gulfstream Mercruiser 5.7

You can go on the Grady website and access old catalogs for your year and the weights of the boats are listed. It is pretty cool to check out what was new and exciting back when too. Edit - I just went on the Grady site and the 89 catalog lists your boat with a 260 HP I/O at 5000#. That is...

    1989 Gulfstream Mercruiser 5.7

Nice hope she tests out OK. In the meantime try to give Grady a call and see what prop they suggested back when. Not too many here have I/Os we are a small but select group you know. What sort of shape is she in? The Gulfstream is a nice boat I would have been tempted but it came out after I...

    1989 Gulfstream Mercruiser 5.7

Is the hub on the prop good? A slipping hub would cause the shaft to spin faster than the prop. Higher RPM less speed. If it is improper pitch IIRC the rule of thumb is an increase of 1" in pitch would decrease RPMs by 200. A decrease of 1" in pitch would increase RPM by 200. So you sound under...

    25' Sailfish power options

My boat had the same power as your old boat. I repowered with a single 8.1 L Mercruiser Bravo 1. That motor is rated at 375 HP. and I am very happy with my performance and fuel economy. More HP and less weight than the 470s. You old boat has 340 HP with your twin 470s granted that is 1970s rated...

    boat could've sank

Not unusual in an older boat. Replace all those thru hulls and start with the ones below the water line. I found a crack in the nylon thru hull for my fish box drain that is located right at the water line. The glass on the inside of the hull was a little uneven and I feel that over time it...

    Removing Stripes From My Grady

I carefully heated mine with a heat gun and used a plastic scraper then cleaned off the glue with goo gone or acetone, can't remember which. A bit of work but not too bad.

    Grady 241 info

That is awesome that the previous owner replaced the entire I/O. I did not search but thought that you had several threads on your projects. I like the I/Os also, when I repowered I priced adding a bracket and OB but the cost estimate was quite a bit more than my I/O repower. Am very happy with...

    Grady 241 info

That was my original power package too. Repowered in 2007 with a Mercruiser 496 with a Bravo I drive. Probably a bit lighter than the twin 470s, I really like the new motor and drive. I feel that it is at least as economical as the twins, actually probably more so and I cruise a bit faster than...

    Wood Flour/Gas Tank Hatch Re-Core

Looks good. Now get it ready and in the water. You are ahead of me I would think, Our weather has not been very good so I am behind. I worked on mine a bit yesterday and found I probably need a new transducer. It's a boat what did I expect.

    Wood Flour/Gas Tank Hatch Re-Core

Looks good just make sure when you put down that final layer that there are no tweaks in the deck. You want it to be level both ways. If it's tweaked it will be tweaked very firmly.

    Wood Flour/Gas Tank Hatch Re-Core

Re: Wood Flour It will be fine, I would think. I used stitch mat for the for that final layer on the advice of the supplier that I purchased the material from. On my 25 the deck cover a bit wider than a 24 and I was concerned about rigidity.

    Wood Flour/Gas Tank Hatch Re-Core

Re: Wood Flour Yes it does kick fast. I remember thinking at the time that I should have maybe used the slow hardner. It will be nice when it is done though, no more soft spots.

    Wood Flour/Gas Tank Hatch Re-Core

Re: Wood Flour Yeah been there done that. If yours is anything like mine it will be a lot less heavy when you are done. No rot but it was soaked. What did you choose as a core material? I went with end grain balsa and relieved the core around where the factory screws went through. I filled...
