    Loss of Steering

You think I need a new cable too? I should be Abe to use the same cable, no? But finding the right helm I need, (I have no idea which one to get) I guess I have to know what cable I have that will fit the model helm I need? And nope, never pulled a steering wheel off before but it looks like I...

    Loss of Steering

So, super super helpful, everyone! I de-greased the cable (rod) at the tube. It read didn't seem like the problem, but I had to rule it out. Moving on- I finally figured out how to disconnect the cable from the helm. I found metal shavings as I was removing the cable - and once all removed...

    Loss of Steering

Thank you everyone! So I was able to get out there this evening..and as I noted above, I released the cable from the tie rod and the motor now moves freely.. very easily like it's unattached, of course.. So I started try to pull the cable through the tube and while that wasn't too hard - I...

    Loss of Steering

Okay, well, I disconnected the cable from the tie rod and the motor moves freely. The steering wheel still is a tough route - so, I am going to pull the cable out of the tube..... did someone say disconnect the cable from the helm first?

Some pictures, I couldn't disconnect the cable ye - but was able to quickly grab some shots - also note - am unable to move the motor towards port, in the picture, that is as far as it will go. I can move it towards starboard but not without heavy binding...

    Loss of Steering

Thanks, skunk! I haven't been able to get down there yet (Stuck inside working). If the motor moves freely when I disconnect the cable from the motor - is ti likely to be at the helm? And should the steering wheel move freely if I disconnect the cable from the helm?

    Loss of Steering

Hey thanks for the suggestions - I haven't had a chance this morning to take another look yet but before I do - - (Sparkdog) I am pretty sure that it's rotary and not rack and pinion.. the cable goes around the helm (in one side & out the bottom) but what does a rack & pinion set up look like...

    Loss of Steering

Hey! I have a 1989 Tournament and today while I was out on the lake, I found that my steering became (all of a sudden - otherwise it was fine) hard to turn. I literally needed two hands with good strength to turn the wheel (and motor). Also, when applying force, it does seem to "give", almost...

    Wood Rot in anchor Box?

OK update - I am getting there - I am ready to cut my wood block - I am using a Douglas fir 2x4 cut at about 8 inches in length. BUT how exact does the block need to fit into the V? Close enough or exact fit? I am hoping close enough since I am putting the 404 epoxy in the V behind the wood -...

Looking at the West Systems website - should I use the 405 filler as opposed to the 404?

    Wood Rot in anchor Box?

Yeah, I actually caught a video too, so that makes sense a little better - and first things first - going to fill that top hole before anything.. just whip up my epoxy and pour it in ........? Going for it!

    Wood Rot in anchor Box?

Perfect! The 105/205 is what I have left over so I might as well use it. :) I want to shape/fillet the glass (1708) tightly to the wood block.. shiny side out or in? (assuming in)

    Wood Rot in anchor Box?

Thanks, Dave! Noted! Skunkboat - yes I still have the pumps I used on my last project - they still seem to function but they are very sticky! I kept them in plastic bags but I agree, it made my last project very easy to mix. I am going to run out to west marine tomorrow and pick up the 404...

    Wood Rot in anchor Box?

Skunkboat! Thank you for the detailed steps for getting this done - Couple of question - but first the most important - what kind of beer do I get? I will have to get some WEST Density Filler - need to take a run to West Marine. but here are some bigger / better pictures to best help with...

    Wood Rot in anchor Box?

Dennis, sorry - that was supposed to read: I am going to do use the hourglass method but just paranoid of drilling further away at what is left of the hole already. It doesn't look like much of the hull is left after all the grinding. BUT - that was then and now I think I have some clarity on...
