Rushed purchase. Did I do OK?

NJ-John, If the dealer took a trade on the original power, then you did infact pay more for that new Honda.. Old hull vs newer hull...??? I have spent years on both the pre and post SV2 in the 228 model. Yes there is a noticable difference but don't sweat it... just use the boat and enjoy...

    300hp Yamaha experiences??

Grady did a test of the 350 on the 232 and came up with 50.4MPH as a top end. (Nice guess BobP..!!) But the real world results will almost certainly be less. Hard top, ducers, bottom paint (especially), etc will all impact the final #'s down.

    300hp Yamaha experiences??

I know of two Grady 232's that recently went through a repower. One from the 250hp Yam and one from a 225hp Johnson. Both went with the 300HP ETEC. Both have only raves about the new power. WOT at about 40-41MPH. Good luck w/ your choice.

    Steering wheel cap replacement

That is great news since 2 of my local dealers said that Attwood discontinued the part and it is not available. Siliconed mine into place then taped it on a temp basis till it cured..

Have you considered the 300hp Etec..?

    Tranducer mounting

You bet.. Signal strength can be reduced 10-15% on the way out and 10-15% on the way back through the hull.. That is 20-30% loss total. Something to think about..

    Could Use Some Advise...

Several points: 1. the 150hp is totally wrong for that hull. 200hp or 200hp H.O. or a 225hp is the required ticket for the job. Wonder how he's got that engine propped and what it turns at WOT. Top end can't be more than 30mph. 2. the package you are looking at is over priced; engine worth...

Moving up to Seafarer 228, Engine Advise

The person that quoted you the $5-6,000 is full of it. New oil tank, control box, cables, harnesses, system check guage may cost you $2,500 tops which includes labor to de-rig / re-rig that boat. If you are buying new from the Grady factory, then they only want to rig with the Yam because that...

what's the bare minimum power for a '93 Gulfstream ?

300HP total will get the job done and single power works great as well on this hull.

    Another Gulfstream repower question...

115 psi all around is what I saw on an identical model 250hp Yam that was swapped out for fresh power because it was getting 'tired' and the WOT performance numbers were getting poorer after every year. It too was on a 232. Top end was down to 32mph under best conditions. Let's see the...

    Another Gulfstream repower question...

What is the pitch of the prop you are turning and what hole is the engine mounted on? What were the compression numbers as well?

    REMOVING BRACKET BRASS DRAIN PLUG...

Since my local marine shop recommended the wrong paint for the underwater portion of the bracket w/ the stuck plug, I had to strip it down to bare metal for the second time and re-coat. The good news is that gave me a shot to gets some heat on that stuck plug. Heated it up and gave it some...

    Fuel Tank Removal

I had the pleasure of having to remove the 92gal tank from a 228. The tank was bigger than the opening so I had to cut the inner lip enough so I could get it out. Keep in mind that Grady puts the tank in before the liner. Than is why your tank is so/too tight.

    REMOVING BRACKET BRASS DRAIN PLUG...

Will try rapping it with a hammer first and get another allen key in there. Now that I know Grady made them this way I will give it a bit more abuse. Then I will go the left hand screw route and keep going up in size till it gets close to the threads. But first ..the painting continues...

    REMOVING BRACKET BRASS DRAIN PLUG...

Existing plug looks to be 1/4" bronze/brass that is 'removable' w/ an allen wrench. I ended up bending / twisting around the allen key I was using; I thought the plug was backing out until I looked at the key itself. Heat I know will break that salt bond. I had to heat the 6 screws in the top...

    REMOVING BRACKET BRASS DRAIN PLUG...

I never knew that Grady used brass plugs in their brackets .. that is until yesterday when I grinded all the paint off a bracket to repaint it. Tried to remove it w/ the correct size Allen key but that did not happen. Thought the prior owner jury rigged it this way. I am use to the plastic...

    225-250 e-tec or 200 hpdi for repower

Etec 200hp HO will push that hull 45mph. Engine weight would not be an issue.
