Nasty Funk in Cockpit Shower Tank

I add a little Clorox to my freshwater tank every spring and flush it after leaving it for a while. I then refill the tank with freshwater and empty it. Clean the filter and put some fresh water in. You should be good after that.

    Clamp On rod holders

I second ONCSLR with the Lee's Tackle clamp on rod holders. Have a pair on my hardtop legs and they work great and look great. They offer a holder at a 45 degree angle that may work for you. While the angle is fixed, I'm not sure I would want something much closer to parallel. I'd be scared...

    windshield wipers

The 52-16 is the blade for my Seafarer and they are stainless steel. The ones on now have been on about 3 years. I found their prices the best and purchased enough to qualify for free shipping.

    Radar on Seafarer

Finished with the radar install. Went with a Sea Scan 6" aft-leaning mount with built-in 4 degree tilt. Very pleased with the end result. Now for the fun part - learning to interpret the returns. Here's a couple of pictures.

    New and Need LOTS OF HELP {PLESASE}

The latches should be a third party item that you could get from many sources. I usually get mine through my local Grady dealer. The prices may be a little higher but I don't have to pay shipping. I also know that it's a direct replacement and will fit. That being said, I sometimes buy from...

    Radar on Seafarer

I realize now that the radar beam will be far ahead of the bow of the boat. I was concerned that the railing on the pulpit may come into play if the unit is mounted too low but that's no longer a concern. However, I still have a GPS antenna that's in the plane of the radome and would like to...

    Radar on Seafarer

I just purchased a Garmin 18HD radar for my 228 and have a couple of questions. Has anyone mounted on an aft leaning radar mount without interference with their VHF antenna, lights, etc? The radar just arrived today and I haven't had a chance to "dry fit" it yet. I'd prefer not to relocate...

    Rubber Trim Glue

I'm having the same problem with the trim. I called GW and they told me it was a vinyl trim (not sure if that makes a difference with adhesives). I was told that it had a tape on the backside that made it adhere to the surface and it was available through my GW dealer. I haven't done...

    Non Skid on Gunnels

I treat it exactly as the rest of the gel coated surfaces. Polish with Finesse It and seal with Collinite wax. Creates a great shine that lasts for months. Surface is still not slippery after this process.

    Seafarer 228

Same problem here with the zinc. I've had a problem keeping them on since I got the boat. Last time I even bought a new bolt and used Loctite. It did stay on a lot longer but it eventually came off. In fact, this is a good reminder for me to buy a replacement. Mine came off earlier this...

    Loose Rubber Trim

The rubber trim that separates the gunwale and the midship fish boxes on my 228 has come loose. I'm not sure what type of adhesive is used to reattach this trim. Has anyone else done this repair and if so what did they use?

Grady 282 Bilge Going On Every 5 mins

It should pump out the 30 gallons really fast. If its only pumping right after filling the fresh water tank and then not running until the tank is refilled then maybe that's the problem but I'm guessing that isn't the case or he probably wouldn't be asking for opinions on what to do. I've seen...

Grady 282 Bilge Going On Every 5 mins

Garboard plug was my first guess as potential problem also. If it was me my top priority would be to pull the boat out now and find the leak versus pulling it from the bottom of your slip later.

Flush mounting electronics on a seafarer

I pretty much did the same thing. Made a template from thin sheet of plywood, mounted the Garmins, and trimmed to fit from behind. The trick was getting them placed where the lock on the door would latch. These units are packed in about as tight as possible...not much space around the edges...

Flush mounting electronics on a seafarer

Will, I just went through this same process earlier in the spring. Initially I had planned on fabricating a fiberglass panel that could be gelcoated to match the rest of the help. This would replace the acrylic door and blend in nicely. After more thought I decided to take a different...

    help-tilt n trim,dosn't always go up

Sounds like the trim button in the binnacle might be corroded. I have the same problem but will take it apart and clean once the weather cools.

    Rear Rod holder replacement 228

I replaced my tubes a few years ago with replacements similar to these. They need replacing again as they've been stained and oxidized and I can't seem to get them clean. I've toyed with the idea of having an aluminum rod holder fabricated but never pursued it. Maybe now is the time to...
