Grady 282 bought through Great Grady, and a thank you

Thanks. It's a tough go buying long distance. My previous purchase on the Grady 252 was also sight unseen. That process was a nightmare as I dealt with a broker that was a liar and didn't know squat. Fortunately for me, the boat itself turned out to be great. Even with a good seller...

Grady 282 bought through Great Grady, and a thank you

It pays to keep looking at forum classifieds! I for one would like to say a big thank you to Great Grady for being up and running, and for having a classified section that people can freely post to. Several months back there was a 1 line post from a new member that simply said they were...

Whats the history of the Sailfish from late 80s to late 90s?

Up until 93 the Sailfish was available with either the full transom with bracket, or with the notched transom with dolphin boards. In 92 the Sailfish went to the SeaV2 hull. In 94 the Sailfish went to the integrated "euro" transom bracket, and eliminated the full across transom fish box and...

    282 Sailfish fuel economy

Glad to here you felt better about running it. As noted, the 3700-4000 RPM range is where I have always run mine for general cruise. So- you said 27-29 knots. Average of 28 knots and 22g/hr translates into 1.46 statute mpg. I think you will find that for that year of motors, that is very...

    Fuel gage--common problem?

Tank fuel gauges for boats are worthless. Some will work, but for the most part you have to assume that it is lying. A properly calibrated fuel meter is a much better way to know what you have in the tank.

    correct props for 1988 sailfish 255 w/ 200 hp yamaha HPDIs ?

I repowered by 1992 252 G with Yam 200 HPDI's. Yamaha SS II 17" props turned 5500-5600 RPM in salt water with full bottom paint, full load of fuel. With full load of 5 people, full fuel, 250# ice and full gear it would still turn 5300-5400 RPM's. The original 200's were also 17's.

    Tab pump location

I am interested to understand the rational behind the response. Pascal's law states that "pressure exerted anywhere in a confined liquid is transmitted equally and undiminished in all directions throughout the liquid." The fundamental principle of hydraulics is that the force exerted on one...

    Tab pump location

I am surprised that Bennet would say that having the pump farther away would change the reaction time of the tabs in any way. Why would they even say that? A proper hydraulic system with no air is going to react immediately regardless of length. Hydraulic fluid is a non compressed medium...

    New Boat Purchase Questions

Congrats on making the step towards a purchase! My only suggestion on how to get the best deal right now is this- don't buy new. Right now there is an amazing amount of boats on the market, many with very minimal hours. The hull warranty and engine warranties of these boats are...

    Through hull fittings.

Here's some pics when I did my scuppers and deck drains with SS. Southco deck drains, and Attwood flapper through hulls. One thing- I used the Southco with the grid top, but if you fish a lot and have a lot of blood on the deck they clog pretty easy. We end up with a lot of water on the...

The "Grady Bunch" tuna guys in the Pacific NW

Oregon and Washington are the only states and ports in the US (as I understand it) that the USCG sets bar restriction for entry and exit. Pretty much all ports are based in the estuaries of rivers, so large tidal swings and outflow of the bays combined with ocean swell can create pretty nasty...

The "Grady Bunch" tuna guys in the Pacific NW

Hehehe... Well, some might be taken aback on what we have invested in fishing gear. Fortunately for me, I am on Pro-Staff for G Loomis and Shimano, so I have a little benefit from that and I typically turn it over each year. Over time I have worked my arsenal up to the level that it is now...

    Keel Hitting Trailer Axle

I had the same problem with my 252. As noted, you can bring the forward bunks in a little and it will raise the hull slightly. The other option and one that I went with is just to add a pad on the axle. Since it only rubs when loading, and not when trailering, a pad was more than adequate...

    The "Sea-J" 1992 Grady White 252G

Barbender- You raise a very valid question, and one that we as a group do our best to educate other about fishing practices and personal take. The albacore tuna that we take are processed in a variety of ways, the most common being- fresh to eat, smoked, and canned. The majority of canning...

    Shipping a Grady

That's great. Be sure to notify your insurance agency that a friend will be pulling it back. This will be covered under your standard boat insurance. If you had a commercial outfit pull it back, you would need an additional rider. The places you mentioned would be fine. You can also look...

The "Grady Bunch" tuna guys in the Pacific NW

Hello all- I posted a pic of my 1992 Grady 252G that I just sold in the picture section, and after a couple comments I thought I should post some info about us here. Yes, I did sell my Grady- but I am buying another, a 2005 282, and am looking forward to getting the deck bloody this...

    The "Sea-J" 1992 Grady White 252G

JUMPNJACK- Hello back! The Oregon "Grady Bunch" has put a LOT of fish on the decks out here. We spend a good bunch of time We started a charity tuna tournament called the Oregon Tuna Classic, and we have a great time. Here's a pic of 3 of our Grady's after the Garibaldi leg this year...

    The "Sea-J" 1992 Grady White 252G

One of the things I like about the pre-1994 Sailfish is the transom fish box. That adds a decent little bit of capacity to the boat. I generally limit the boat to 40 fish on a fast and furious day. The picture above is 44 fish. That is the maximum that a 1992 GW 252G can hold in the...

    The "Sea-J" 1992 Grady White 252G

Thanks! She has been a GREAT boat. We routinely fish 50 miles offshore for albacore tuna. We troll, cast, jig, and live bait fish depending on the time of year, and what the tuna are doing. Lots of rod holders since we have different gear for each style. There are a number of us out...
