    Replacing Fuel Tank

I have a leaking fuel tank in my '92 246G Explorer. Have a new one built as we speak and I am hoping to properly mount this one to reduce the chances of corrosion over time. Some say to coat the tank (with??) and others say to leave it alone. The issue seems to be where the tanks sits on the...

    Grady Drive Drain Plug?

So, I have a question about the Grady Drive. Mine is a '92 246G Explorer. I am the original owner and I have never opened the Grady Drive bracket - never pulled the plug or opened the top plate. Boat has always been kept on a trailer and I have never seen any water "leaking" from the bracket...

    Boat Lift

Thanks for the replies. I do have to watch my thru hull for my livewell but it shouldn't be an issue. I'll get some exact measurements but as noted in the replies, I've seen dry storage bunks pretty close together fo bigger boats. Probably won't lift the boat too far out of the water, just...

    Boat Lift

I have the opportunity to stay at a relative's house in the Keys this summer. They have a long dock with a boat lift at the end of the dock. It has a capacity of 15K lbs and is set up for a 24' bay boat. I have a 1992 246G Explorer that I would like to keep on the lift while we are there. My...

    '93 244 Explorer Repower

Repowered my '92 246G about a year ago with a Yamaha 250 VMax. Fantastic motor and was able to reuse all of my controls/cables. Somewhere around 20K-21K out the door. Yamaha has the 5 year warranty incentive program going on right now which is an added plus. You're in SW Florida also. Call...

Converting GW 24 Explorer from single to twin engine...Help

Re: Converting GW 24 Explorer from single to twin engine...H I went with the 250 VMAX because I was able to use the mechanical controls. If I had gone with the 300, I would have had to switch to fly by wire which would have added about $1500 to the cost. The 250 4.2 litre (VMAX) is the same...

Converting GW 24 Explorer from single to twin engine...Help

Re: Converting GW 24 Explorer from single to twin engine...H I have a '92 246G. Not twins but I just repowered with a 2016 Yamaha 250 V Max. 4.2 litre - great power. Was able to use the original mechanical controls. I would be a bit leery about twins (especially four strokes) on the back...

    Corrosion of F225 engine block

Congrats on the new motor. Don't know how old your boat is but you might want to consider new gauges. Mine is a '92 so it was time for new ones. I went with the "updated" round replacement gauges and it wasn't too much more. The 4.2 litre motors are awesome! You'll love it. Chris

    Corrosion of F225 engine block

I got rid of my F225 before the corrosion became an issue. Replaced it with a 250 VMax SHO. Amazing difference in performance. You are in SW Florida. Contact KG at Ingmann Marine in Pt. Charlotte. Best deal I found and great after the sale service. Chris

    Trailer recommendations for 240 Offshore

I have a 92 24 Explorer. Original trailer was a roller trailer and the only advantage was that I could winch it on the trailer. In time it became more trouble than it was worth and I switched it over to bunks. Two years ago I replaced it with a custom built trailer from Boatmaster in Ft...

    Attaching Starboard

Planning to mount a piece of starboard on the back of my transom to mount two transducers. Removing one old one and don't want to "swiss cheese" the transom so my plan is to mount a 6" x 18" piece and mount the transducers into that. My question is what is the best way to attach the starboard...

2WD or AWD for tow vehicle

It would suck to find out you need AWD to pull the boat up the ramp and not have it. Don't most AWD vehicles have a setting that allows 2WD unless needed? Chris

New motor prop and rpm questions

SMG, I have the 4.2 litre 250 on my 246 G Explorer and I had the same issues. I am running a 17 pitch prop and was only able to get 5400 RPM. I raised the motor to the top mounting hole and now I can get 5600 - 5700 RPM and 48 MPH. Might do the same for you also, cheaper than buying a new...

    Repower coming my way

SmokyMountain, I repowered my 246G Explorer about a year ago and had the same needs as you do. I had a 2003 225 4 stroke and wanted something new (Exhaust manifold concerns) and with more power. Looked at the 250 3.3 litre and power wise there wasn't much difference. 250 (or 300) 4.2 litre...

    Repower Questions

I just did what you are looking to do. I have a 1992 24 Explorer with a bracket. I went with the Yamaha VMAX 250 (SHO) with the 25" shaft. This is the third motor in 25 years (225 stroke and 225 four stroke prior). The boat has never run this well. I can now power through swells...

    246G Explorer Questions

Dealer says 5600 -5800 would be better for the motor. Boat runs well - gets up on plane with no issues. Wondering if raising it up a notch will help??

    246G Explorer Questions

New to the forum and I have a couple of questions. I have a 1992 246G Explorer that I have just repowered with a 2016 Yamaha V Max 250. Still breaking it in so performance may change as it loosens up. Currently have the motor mounted one hole down from all the way up and running an older 17...
