    Keeping busy and feeling it

Right there with you. Seems like every bit of work hurts my elbow, shoulder or hip, and I’m only 45. What’s going to happen 30 years from now? Hope you can get in the water soon. I’m heading to the lake for a test run tomorrow.

Another COVID-19 Boat/Trailer Pick up thread

Certainly is an adventure going to buy a boat at a distance. Drove from NH to Alabama in 2013 to buy a leftover boat for $15,000 less than I could have bought local. Slept in my vehicle and ate peanut butter and jelly sandwiches all the way there and back to save money and make the trip worth...

    HELP...Transom Swell - Express 360

It’s not that hard to lift the motor off and pull the transom cap off. I’d want to see what it’s like under there before I bought the boat. If the transom is swollen and bulging it must be wet. If it’s wet that’s a problem that will need to be dealt with one way or the other. It may be wet and...

    Switch location

The rubber boots are over pop up circuit breakers so when you don't feel anything that is good. If they were to trip, a little pin would pop up in there allowing you to reset the breaker. Once you pull the switch panel off you may see extra blade connector spots where you could easily add the...

    Transom cap (bang plate) replacement

There was a hairline crack in the corner that I tapered out and glassed. I had also ground out the epoxy between the liner and hull so I filled those gaps with 5200. Then I made a new cap out of 2x2” x 1/8” aluminum angle. Cut the mitered corners on my chop saw with an old blade. Made a spacer...

    Great Grady Transom?

Just got the motor back on. My bolt pictures looked pretty much like yours beforehand.

    Great Grady Transom?

I was thinking that when in reverse the motor would be pulling on the lower bolts.

Best compound and Wax for bringing back a 2004 Hull?

The 3M Perfect It gelcoat series works well with a rotary polisher and and wool pad. I had a very oxidized hull and used the heavy cutting compound followed by light compound/wax and I can see my face in it now.

Plexiglass gauge and switch cover needed?

That all makes me feel better about doing it. Thanks!

Plexiglass gauge and switch cover needed?

Is the plexiglass flip up gauge and switch cover like below actually needed? I find it annoying and am thinking about removing mine. I would think that GW would use high-quality waterproof switches, but perhaps I'm mistaken. Most newer boats just have their gauges and switches mounted without...

Fuel Tank, Deck Plate & Moisture

Just replaced all mine with Beckson spin offs. The cost of the o-rings weren't much less than buying the whole plate (shop around the price differs drastically). They were an exact fit and the holes even lined up.

    Thru Hull Refirb

Next time you mask just tape over the edges in a linear fashion and cut around the circle with razor blade. You'll save some tape. :)

    Great Grady Transom?

I had the same problem on my 1993 GW 209 and decided to grind out the washer indents and glass over. I was surprised how thin the inner skin of the fiberglass was there, maybe 1/8". When I ground it out the plywood underneath was solid but there was a little weep of water from between two of...

    Folding motor dam removal question

Motor just about clears now with the cutting board removed. I should only have to shave off an inch or so in the middle 1/3 of the motorwell dam. Then I’ll remove the original plastic catches and add the spring loaded barrel latches on the sides to hold it up. I’ll post another pic when it’s done.

    1994 209 Escape Seacock live well/raw water

There is no aeration on the livewell. That silver grate is an overflow and it’s my understanding that you just keep the livewell pump on bringing fresh seawater in constantly and the overflow goes out that drain. That’s what I did last summer and it keeps the bait fish very happy. If you shut...

    1994 209 Escape Seacock live well/raw water

On the 209 the livewell overflow and drain and scuppers are just above the water line. If these through hulls break you have a 2” hole directly into the bilge. I wasn’t comfortable with that scenario so I replaced the old plastic ones with new stainless steel.

    1994 209 Escape Seacock live well/raw water

I’ve got a 1993 209 with the exact setup (although my valve is under the console) and just replaced hose and y-valve. There is a single pump mounted in the stern on the port side that takes the water from the seacock and sends it to that y-valve. You turn the valve one way to fill and circulate...
