Electrical gremlins/switch panel replacement Sailfish 272

Good point! I was aware of this and luckily the previous owner kept everything in good shape so it’s legible, but since I wasn’t sure if I’d need to pull the boat and the river I’m in is one of the worst on the east coast for current I’d really want the second motor for docking to pull it. If I...

Electrical gremlins/switch panel replacement Sailfish 272

Yes great point! Once I was able to use the trim/tilt I moved onto the other issues (since the boat isn’t going anywhere until that’s fixed) but am keeping in mind I need to get back there once I get the panel back together. I was just happy to not have to leave one engine down for a week in the...

Electrical gremlins/switch panel replacement Sailfish 272

Spent some time today working through it all. Trim/tilt must have had an air bubble or has a small leak, but when I got to the boat it worked without touching anything. Will have to keep an eye on it and hopefully it lasts until I pull it to do a thorough check and maybe a rebuild of it if...

Electrical gremlins/switch panel replacement Sailfish 272

Have had the new to me sailfish 272 for a little over a month now. Boats amazing and have been using it at least 3 times a week. Recently I’ve been having electrical gremlins show up. One day, livewell pump and raw water pump stopped working. It ended up being fixed when I took the switch panel...

    Swivel Rod Holder Additions

That’s exactly what I was able to do. I only have two currently but am going to pick up 2 more and replace the front ones. All worked out great with some life caulk and a good drill bit. Was able to install and use 2 days later…with no luck fishing but they came out nice and clean.

    Swivel Rod Holder Additions

Sorry for the dumb question…but… when you say “run the drill backwards” are you referring to in reverse (loosen if it were a screw) or do you mean from under the gunwale up (reverse direction than the rod holder will be going in)? Sounds like a stupid question but wanted to clarify since I’m...

How much corrosion expected in 2005 Yamaha 225hp with 650hrs?

I had a 2002 F225 on my last boat. Bought it with some corrosion, ran it for a year no issues then did the exhaust update. Mine came apart easy and had not gotten to the block. There’s no true signs of of it gets to the block without pulling the block. Scoping only goes so far (discussed with...

    Swivel Rod Holder Additions

Thanks for the tips, I’ll be attempting this Saturday so happy to hear as much advice as possible. These are being installed for giants/medium bluefin and I already have the rods and know the rod holders (same as my last boat) so I know the rod/holder combo works. I will be using a hole saw...

    Swivel Rod Holder Additions

Great info! I have one 0* and one 15* degree I will be installing. I’m hoping to get it all laid out Friday/Saturday to see what you mean about the stock ones. I had a feeling that was the case but have never installed any myself before so wasn’t sure. I’ll be using bent butt rods with 130’s on...

    Swivel Rod Holder Additions

Planning on adding 2 swivel rod holders to my 2000 sailfish 272. I have never added rod holders and want to make sure I do it right and not ruin the gunnels. 1. does anyone know if standard swivel holders will fit in the stock lee rod holder holes? They look to be about 2” bases and the backing...

    2000 Sailfish 272 It’s Official

The run home was great, lines off around 7:30am and in the slip I kept it at for the weekend around 4:30pm. Calm following seas/winds the whole way. Averaged about 22kts including the time in the canal which we didn’t have to slow down much for since we timed the current right. I didn’t get...

    GW335 Outriggers

I’m considering selling the pair that came with my 272. Side mount telescoping 18’, I’ll get model later this week when I’m on the boat. I love how they look I just don’t or rarely troll and constantly go under bridges so theyll tend to be more in the way for my uses. I’m in NH so not too far...

    2000 Sailfish 272 It’s Official

After a few years with an offshore center console made the decision to get a walk around for the northeast. Closed Thursday on a 272 sailfish and spent the weekend on it including running it 162 miles ~8hrs Friday with my dad for a nice Father’s Day trip. Looking forward to many more weekends...

Just had a nice little 560 mile journey, Sailfish 282

Great info, I was concerned about the speed limit in the canal, hopefully I can do the same speeds and get through it on the quicker end. Im up the river from great bay by about 2 miles but while my moorings getting beefed up I’m keeping it there. It’s a nice spot overall. Thanks for the info!

Just had a nice little 560 mile journey, Sailfish 282

Great summary, sounds like an awesome trip! I’m making most of the second leg of your trip Friday. Leaving westerly RI heading to the Piscataqua river in a new to me 272 sailfish. Glad to hear it was a smooth ride, I’m timing the canal at slack tide Friday. Any tips or tricks or issues for...

Medium/Giant Tuna fishing from a 272 New England

Thanks for the insight, I had my CC fully rigged for commercial permits including Gumby suits offshore flares epirb etc. where I fish I primarily see giants, and last year of the 10 days I fished 7 were “open buy” days, so I was out in giant territory with a rec permit. I’m going back and forth...

Medium/Giant Tuna fishing from a 272 New England

Great info all. My last boat I was rec but being in northern New England and fishing when I do where I do and with the other boats I fish with was considering getting the commercial permit this year purely due to the fact I’m out the 70% of the time when the buyers were buying last year and most...
