    broken thru hull

Below or at waterline use 5200 and two hose clamps. If it’s down near the cockpit drains then it is considered below the waterline. As noted above do not do any unusual things when dealing with thru-hulls and hoses that can sink your boat.

    Balsa or no Balsa?

I know my 2007 305 Express was a freakin’ tank! It was the most solid hull I’ve ever owned.

Shopping list for Grady re-wire 1987 seafarer 228

I suggest you run 2/0 or 4/0 red wire from the battery switch(es) to a new red wiring buss that is centrally located in the boat console. Also run a matching size black wire from the batteries to a new wiring buss. Then install one or more new fuse blocks to feed all the circuits fore and aft...

    Steam from new engine...

Correct! It’s water vapor condensation. All of my Yamahas have done it.

    Will subwoofer fit

The hardtop cover has a row of about 8 snap fasteners along its perimeter. Cover a small screwdriver with a cloth and pry one edge down. Once a fastener comes loose the others will follow suit.

    Will subwoofer fit

The screws are one front and one rear of the plastic liner. They are covered with an almond color round plastic cap that pops off with a knife edge or screwdriver.

    Will subwoofer fit

Just remove the plastic side panel (2 screws and 5 minutes) and look around. I think the width is tapered from top to bottom following the hull profile. I’d guess it’s about 10” at its widest point. There is lots of room in there. I always take panels and covers off my Grady’s to have a look...

    Steering malfunction

If it makes you feel any better, my neighbor has had a lot of trouble with his Mercury Verado 300’s. He’s had both steering issues and throttle sequencing issues. IMHO I’d rather have straight electric steering with a bow thruster. I think the joysticks are a sales tool that cause too many...

    Cockpit Scupper Access

You might be looking at a rotated view. That fuel/water cap is not on a horizontal surface.

2002 Sailfish 282 back deck canopy, has anyone had one built?

Check out oceansouth.us They make a good product and the uprights are really heavy duty.

    Freedom 225 vs 215

I love my Freedom 235. Length is a consideration in addition to beam. I find that when running through moderate chop the longer boat rides smoother.

Any Experience with Catalano & Sons in CT

Roger that! I get where you're coming from. Some high pressure dealers just won't address questions about negative issues.

Anyone use a drift sock on an 18ft?

I use a cheap 24" drift sock. I don't know if you have Academy in your area but then have them for $15.

Any Experience with Catalano & Sons in CT

It would help if you added some info about the engines. I had twin 2007 F250's on a boat and they did not have exhaust issues. There was a cutoff in late 2006/2007 models where the issue was improved. My engines had 500+ hours with no exhaust issues.

Windlass anchor rope “rode” tangling/jam fix?

One easy fix is to let out all the line with nothing on it and let it untwist. You can drag it behind the boat if you're in a secluded area. But 8 plait is also a good idea.

    Do I really need NMEA2000?

You can connect the CL7 to many Garmin displays via Garmin Marine Network (GMN) and/or NMEA2000. You get more functions if you use GMN such as shared maps, sonar and radar. You only need one Active Captain microSD card and it can be in any device if you have the GMN. It is especially convenient...

    2007 305 express input

I think there are two possibilities (at least): 1) The transducer could have gone bad. I've read that if a transducer is allowed to transmit a lot while out of the water the transmitter can go bad. And a transducer can just go bad for no reason. This is a fairly inexpensive replacement. 2) It...

    Battery chargers

Minn-Kota Precision will not cook your batteries. I‘ve had good luck with these on my two boats with 4 batteries each. https://minnkotamotors.johnsonoutdoors.com/battery-chargers/board-precision-chargers?id=13971
