    Removing Steering Wheel

Seasick, I've changed out a thousand, yes, I said a thousand (give or take a few) wheels in my years of boat building...my method works, and it's not NUTS! So far, no dentist bills not chriropractor bills involved...

    Removing Steering Wheel

Tucker, The nut should loosen fairly easily. The problem is going to be freeing up the wheel from the shaft. Back off the nut, but leave it on the shaft a couple of threads. Go find a buddy, offer him a beer. While he pulls on the wheel, take a short length of 2 X 4 and pound on it on the...

    Another Fuel Gauge Question

A known "good" ground, when touched to the sending wire, will cause the gauge(s) to peg to full. A faulty ground, i.e. one that is not making the best contact, can do the same as the return path seeks to find it's way back to the batts. That return path can include the "positive" side of the...

    Another Fuel Gauge Question

Lundinroof, If you have a bad ground on a fuel sender, it will peg the gauge to full. Check for ground continuity on both tanks to a known good ground, also for continuity on the ground on the gauge...

WOT RPMS for Counter Rotating Twin

Choo, Where do your tachs sit at idle? Virtually identical? Try this. With the motors off, move the throttles to WOT. Pull the cowlings and mark the positions of the throttle linkages where the cables attach in relation to the powerheads. Is the starboard linkage further than the port? 100...

    twin bracket for 2003 gulfstream

I agree with Bob, although you can check with Stainless Marine as well as Armstrong...they aren't cheap either. But I'd go with Hermco. Excellent product, full flotation, plus I like the way he thinks...a bit towards port...

    Hard power steering

Marty, As you stated, that Hynautic system has long been discontinued, and most of you may know, Hynautic has been owned by Teleflex for the last several years. There is a gentleman on THT, Marc Adams, goes by the screen name "seastar steering", represents Teleflex (he's on my site as well)...

    Marlin 300 electrical issue

Sorry to de-rail. From your 50A breaker in the stern, you'll have probably a 6GA feeding the helm via a positive bus. Another 6GA will come off the bus and feed the main 12VDC breaker on your panel, which will in turn feed the individual breakers for each appliance. Pull your panel down and...

    257 Advance- Under Gunnel Lights

Some rope lights come with a "flange" that allows you easily mount the by simply drilling through the flange about every 8" or so and securing with 1/2" #8 panheads. The ones that are circular with no flange, use the appropriate sized nylon cable clamps and secure that way...

    Marlin 300 electrical issue

Inline fuses for the trim tabs and auto-floats, yes. That's 2, and they are both easily accessable. Any electronics installs with their own in-lines, yes, but they aren't part of the original boat. At Wellcraft, the only in-line we had was for the Bennett tabs. At Stamas, the same. Proline...

how'd you doit? replacing wood at rear of cockpit '89 252g

You know, it's funny. At Proline, we use Stainless Marine brackets. At Stamas, we used Armstrong brackets. 2 of the biggest, if not THE biggest names in the business. Yet, the Hermco bracket does the better job, offsets the weight effect of moving the motors further aft by providing...

272 fresh water fuse and pump

Racky, A circuit protection device, be it a fuse or a breaker, MUST be relatively easy to access as it will be obviously necessary to either reset a breaker or replace a fuse in the event of a fault in that circuit. Especially fuses, as one has to actually replace a part unlike breakers where...

    Leaking trim and tilt

Read what and for how long each section of your motor is covered. Some sections may only have a year or two. Some may have 5 or 6. You'd like to think that the warranty would cover EVERYTHING on the motor for the duration of the warranty, but that's not always the case...

272 fresh water fuse and pump

Is your fresh water pump controlled by a switch on the dash, and does it not have an associated breaker protecting it either directly above or below it? If GW did indeed use a fuse, the owner's manual WILL tell you where it is, unless they want a lot of pissed off owners out there...
