1985 Grady White Trophy 257 Fuel Tanks

Gates- attached is a link I posted a while ago detailing my speed numbers with the 150's. Keep in mind too that my motors have approx 1100+ hours on them, and my bottom has 25 years of paint on it! But I have to say that even with a boatload of people the 150's push her without a problem...

1985 Grady White Trophy 257 Fuel Tanks

Re: Fuel tanks... Gates- I did a full restoration on a 1983 Trophy and, I, too, had no need for all that fuel. So what I did was replace the factory 150 gallon with a new one I found on Ebay ($300), and removed the 75 gallon rear tank. Then I took that rear tank area and relocated the...

    1983 Trophy Helm Restoration

OFFSHORE- I believe all the panels from Scott cost around $400- but that included the rocker switches/ backlighting prewired. Every person who steps on my boat comments on the panels, well worth every penny. Scott was great to work with and can do anything you want. His website is...

Black Marks on Hull from Bow trailer roller

A bit cheaper than changing rollers...try wrapping old socks around them. We used to do that for speedboats with no bottom paint- worked well.

    Restored 1983 Trophy Pro

Trophy Restoration... Hey guys- thanks again for the kind words. Part of the three year restoration was having two kids- and now I can enjoy the boat with them. In fact tonight my oldest son (3 1/2) caught his first fish...although it was a SeaRobin he was absolutely ecstatic!!! I almost...

1983 Trophy Transom Replacement- YES WORMS!!!

Grog...the first layer was screwed fome the inside out. I was trying to figure out a clamping technique and just could not come up with something satisfying. I figured with the screws I would know each contact point and be able to control the adhesion better. It seemed to work pretty well...

1983 Trophy Transom Replacement- YES WORMS!!!

Choogen- there were two points of entry for water. The first was the seam where the top cap met the hull in the outboard well. GW's answer for the seam was a piece of angle aluminum that worked...well look at the pic's. The second areas were the thru hulls and garboard plug. Like I said it...

1983 Trophy Transom Replacement- YES WORMS!!!

Thanks for the compliments. 25 trophy pro- I made a post in the general discussion listing all of my speed numbers, you can find it here: http://www.greatgrady.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8712 With some different props, rpm's, and the right conditions I don't see why mid to high 40's is...

1983 Trophy Transom Replacement- YES WORMS!!!

CD- I spoke to Interlux and they said with proper prep and using two coats of the respective primer it will last a long time. I have already used a 3000 psi powerwasher directly on it and nothing happened at all. I applied two coats of primer and 3 coats of paint with sanding (320grit) in...

1983 Trophy Transom Replacement- YES WORMS!!!

CD- All of the paint I used on the boat was Interlux.

1983 Trophy Transom Replacement- YES WORMS!!!

Thanks for the compliments guys! T-bone...the large contributing factor why it took me three years to complete was that I had 2 children during the restoration. The transom took me a while because I did bits and pieces here and there when time permitted. But I would say that with two...

1983 Trophy Transom Replacement- YES WORMS!!!

There was a little bit of water that drained from the very bottom, but that was all. However, when I say I could take out the wood by hand I meant I literally ran my hand over the wood and could make a "snowball"- that's how bad it was. I also replaced the starboard bulkhead floor support and...

1983 Trophy Transom Replacement- YES WORMS!!!

I have tackled alot of small fiberglass projects in the past but nothing of this size. I decided to cut the rear skin off and go from the outside in- it seemed to be less work than cutting the cap. Here was the sequence of events for the transom: -cut the skin (fell right off) -clean...

    1983 25 Trophy Restoration...

It's tough trying to remember to snap the pic's as you go. And unfortunately I "misplaced" a whole bunch of in-between pic's...but have enough to satisfy some boat porn for everyone!

    1983 Trophy Helm Restoration

As you will see from the first pic there was a ton of what I thought unnecessary items on the dash. I filled a whole bunch of holes first by plugging them with wood and sealing the holes with glass. This was done by scarfing the existing edges and overlapping 1 1/2 oz matting, and finished...

    1983 25 Trophy Restoration...

I picked up a well worn 25' trophy 3 years ago thinking it would be a quick fix. Well 3 years later it turned into a complete restoration. The boat was stripped of absolutely everything and rebuilt from bow to stern. Everything on the boat needed attention, and I mean everything! I will...
