Please help...24 Offshore vs 25 Sailfish

FYI Boating Magazine just had a story on the Mercury Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) program...sounds like this may have been one of those motors. Sounds like a good program.

Please help...24 Offshore vs 25 Sailfish

Just my thoughts but I'd lean towards the bigger boat. 1. Boats get smaller the more you use them (2 foot-itis) and with a family onboard running to the beach, etc. the extra room (and better ride) can come into play very quickly 2. Assuming the motors on both boats are in good shape and...

Docking Question ? Anybody use a wood Plank to get on Boat?

My marina doesn't have finder slips either so I have to dock my Marlin bow in as well. We have a simple Todd 3 step box (West Marine or build your own) and go on over the bow rail. One of my projects this year is to remove the peice of the bow rail at the very end to make it easier. A...

    Good Johnson Mechanic

I've been very happy and very impressed with Bob at Martin's Marine in Islip (631-277-4558) Not a bad ride from where you are. Suffolk Marine in Babylon is also top notch

Cracks on transom - should I be worried?

Have the boat surveyed. The only way I would feel comfortable with any used boat is by having a surveyor or at least a fiberglass specialist & mechanic go over it. You can have a nasty looking gel coat and/or crack that is in perfect structural condition and conversely picture perfect gel...

Need Engine Assistance- "Engine Reverse problems"

I had a problem last year very similar to what you describe only I couldn't get reverse at all. First mechanic said it was a dog clutch. Second mechanic found that the first mechanic never tightened the screws on the air filter. They backed out, fell down and jammed the linkage. Long...

    bottom Paint

I'm not sure but I think outdrives are suppose to get a differant anti-fouling paint then bottoms. Bottem paints generally have a copper compound of some type that does react with the aluminium in outdrives. Not 100% sure though

Motor Cuts Out at Low RPM

Its a long shot but when it dies on you can you inspect your fuel line to the motor? It is possible that the fuel line is collapsing. Its a real long shot since I would think a fuel line would coolapse under high demand not idle but you never know. Also...are these carb motors or fuel...

    gas tank removal/inspection

It depends on the size of the leak. It doesn't take much gas in the bilge (when added to normal water down there) to give the impression of a major leak.

    gas tank removal/inspection

Looking for a suveyor NY area

If you're looking downstate I can suggest Mark Leuly631-807-2694 I've used him for over 10 years on purchases and insurance renewal surveys. On LI a great Yamaha mechanic/dealer is Suffolk Marine. Bob at Martin's Marine in Islip isn't a dealer but has been fantastic on my motors.

    MRD E-Zorb

I agree. We've already done all of that. Plus we've checked the gasket around the sending unit even though the top of the tanks under the inspection port was dry. One thing the mechanic did say is that even thought the Racors look big, it really doesn't take much water to jam them up. That's...

    MRD E-Zorb

Thanks again for the opinions. I think I'm going to stick the tank this weekend (assuming its not raining) with the water detection kit MRD sells and see what I'm dealing with. Like I said the mechanic has already pumped out a significant amount of water so the real question is am I almost...

    MRD E-Zorb

Thanks guys. I have been using both Startron and ringfree. I don't beleive either does anything regarding the water that got pumped in. Its not (at least I don't think it is) being caused by phase seperation. It came in as water. I do have the 10 micron Racors and I do beleive they are...

    MRD E-Zorb

Just looking for a few opinions here. You guys have always been right on the money in the past. I have an '89 Marlin that was in storage for a few years when I bought it. I pumped out the old fuel, added new fuel and had it professionally polished. I then filled both 150g tanks on the boat...

    Yes

It must be the year for cracked supports. I had a partial crack that the boat yard had welded for me. On a happier note, the weather for tomorrow looks good and I've been catching flounder for the last few weeks so I hope you're going to get out there this weeknd and get in on the fun.

1992 Marlin -Forward Bilge Pump Help

Check out the GW website for a manual on your model. They usually show the wire runs which makes a big differrence. I went nuts last year with a shore power problem after I popped the circuit until I say down and looked at the diagram....lo and behold a breaker where I least expected...
