    When it goes wrong!

Looks to me that he was taking on water and had a full bilge prior to the sinking. That boat was riding way too low to the water with hardly any free board. That would also explain why it sunk so quickly and did not turtle.

    265 Express/Suzuki DF200APXW2

Nice, let us know how this goes. I hope that there are twin 200s in my future. I think that the 265 Express and the 270 Islander have similar dimensions.

OP, How about you show us some photos of your recent purchase.

    Buying a new polisher

I bought a Porter Cable Random Orbital last year. Nice unit, but not enough power for the gelcoat of a boat. I found that you really need a rotary direct drive for gelcoat. If you are just waxing a RO unit would be fine, but if you have any oxidation, you really need a rotary unit.

    Sailfish Transom/Fiberglass Question

Based on those photos and the fact that the boat is 20 years old, I would go in assuming that the transom had to be repaired and it was going to cost me $6 to $7K. If you like the boat and it's priced right, I would still consider it. The much bigger concern is the power. If the motors are...

    Old bottom paint removal

I had the same situation as the OP. Believe it or not, I bought a fairly inexpensive electric pressure washer from HD and removed about 95% of my old peeling bottom paint with that pressure washer. I then used a scrapper to remove the remnants. I then applied a new coat of Petit ablative and...

    Screen for Cabin Front Hatch

I have a 2002 Islander, but I imagine that GW uses the same hatch for many models. I would love find a screen for my cabin hatch so that I could leave it open at night if sleeping in the cabin while at the marina. Once dusk hits, the mosquitoes come out in droves.

    270 islander scupper hoses

I will have to take a better look at mine. You would think that these hoses would last the life of the boat. They are not exposed to sunlight, they are usually empty, and they are not under pressure.

Anyone have a 268 islander that can answer some questions?

I have a 2002 islander with a single, is that close enough? What is your question?

    Trailering a 330 express

Just a note regarding trailering large loads, you should not be relying on the tow vehicle's brakes for stopping the load. Whether it's a large camper or boat, they need to have their own brakes.

Optimal Cruise Speed for Fuel Efficiency? 1998 272

You really need the performance information for your boat and motor combination. If you have a fuel flow gauge, you could develop your own information. I actually emailed GW and they provided me the performance information for my boat and motor combination. It turns out that for my...

NE Weather Has Not Been Cooperating

I just wanted to point out that you can buy a 3M "Hookit" backer disc for your Porter Cable, and that enables you to use a lot of different foam pads. I had good luck with Griots Garage foam pads.

    Fuel tank project is complete

The install really looks good. Where did the leaks in the original tank end up being? Now I'm nervous about having to replace mine since it's two years older than yours.

    Yamaha repower questions

Has anyone considered Yamaha's 4-cylinder 200 HP motor? That is the motor that my local GW dealer recommended to me if I decide to repower my 2002 Islander. He recently quoted $40,000 for the complete installation.

    Buying an “underpowered” gulfstream

Have it surveyed and take it for a sea trial and form your own opinion. The WOT speed will probably be around 34 mph. If the power is acceptable, and the survey checks out, buy the boat and run it for a year or two. If you still like it, repower it in a few years.

Woohoo! Finally found the one I wanted!

Congratulations, doesn't it feel good when you finally find that boat that you've been hunting for?
