    Leaking hull 1998 Voyager 248

The thru hulls are all bronze. The ones under the boat are not the source of the leak. The thru hulls include: Bait tank overflow Bait tank drain (also the cooler locker drain) 4 deck scuppers Forward deck corner drains There is a below waterline hole where someone had run transducer cable...

    Leaking hull 1998 Voyager 248

I have a small leak in the hull that is triggering the bilge pump about every 20 minutes. The boat is stored on a trailer. Took it out this weekend looking for the leak. It seems to be coming from the center in the rear. (there's no water on either of the side troughs when you look under the...

Electronics: Looking to go iPad based

The wood enclosure is not strong enough. It needs to be more significant. But The electronics were great. The communications to the ipads worked flawless. The Navionics ipad started to redraw the depth contours based on the information from the depth sounder. It was really impressive...

Electronics: Looking to go iPad based

It's been a little while since I posted on this topic. I finally got the electronics installed. The results are good, not great. The original plan to put the thing together with king starboard didn't go too well. The plastic has to be connected with mechanical fasteners and the tolerances I...

Electronics: Looking to go iPad based

The screen of an ipad has a glossy finish that is more reflective than standard LCD marine electronics. Mounting it in the overhead should minimize the problem - but you don't really know till you try. The iPads do have an adjustable brightness which gets pretty bright. Working on fabbing up...

Electronics: Looking to go iPad based

Yes - that image is from the Dragonfly sent via WiFi. Don't spend any money till this is water tested. Still a bit to go. I yanked all the electronics from the overhead console. There was a polypropylene filler piece - is that factory or aftermarket:

Electronics: Looking to go iPad based

The Dragonfly 4 Pro came in the mail yesterday. So, I gave it power and put it on demo mode to see what the image quality looks like on the iPad. The picture quality is great. There is some pixelation of the image because this iPad screen is bigger than anything Raymarine sells without going...

    247 advance question

My voyager 248 with twin 150 OX66 and bottom paint burns more. My best mpg is about 1.7. She was named "Dirty Girl" it should read "Thirsty Girl." Twins is obviously not apples and apples through. I just don't want you to get into this thinking that it'll get great distance per gallon.

Electronics: Looking to go iPad based

That is the $64,000 question. Details on technical information for this game have been very limited. I will let you know when it is all hooked up.

Electronics: Looking to go iPad based

Turns out that the WiFish only has the downview option (the high resolution images) and no standard sonar. The standard sonar is supposedly better for actually identifying fissh. So, the first model with both types of sonar that transmits to tablets via Wifi is the Dragonfly 4 Pro. It has both...

Electronics: Looking to go iPad based

That looks nice. I have the same "Lifeproof" case as well. My plan is to surface mount a couple Ram mounts that lock and work with the lifecase on the 4th gen iPad. This will be on the upper electronics box - safe from exposure. The other idea is to mount them from the back of the...

Electronics: Looking to go iPad based

My boat came with an electronics package that was probably great for the day, but things have come along way since 1998 when discussing marine electronics. The Raymarine display alone must have been a couple grand back then. But, they really do suck. The GPS has limited map data, it's black...

Successfully replaced the fuel tank sending unit

After looking a a gauge reading zero after a fill up, I took a look around here and found that the sending unit is a common point of failure with the original design. Sent a note to Grady asking them the proper length for the sending unit. for my application it was 11.5" long. Ordered a new...

From Plumbed PortaPotty to a Marine Head

The 1998 Voyager 248 had three options for a head: 1. Portable portapotty 2. Portapotty with deck pumpout 3. Marine Head with tank, macerator, etc. #2 is what I have and it's my least favorite. It is apparently the least favorite of every other previous owner - because nobody has ever used it...

Help any 248 Voyager owner with a kicker

I was looking at the same problem. The bracket itself is custom from Tim's Marine in Sacramento, CA. First off - I already own the Honda 9.9 that was being installed. It's a 4 blade power thrust model. Downside is that there is no steering tube on the transom bracket associated with the...

    9.9 yamaha trolling motor issue

Another possible cause is the impeller debris. If you wait till the impeller falls apart before you replace it - then you have to get all those little pieces out. They won't make it past the thermostat. This happened on my Honda. Start at the intake screens - pull those off and remove any...

    Seats: plastic slide bushing

There are white plastic bushing/sliders on the factory seat posts where they attach to the seats. One of mine is gone. Where do I find replacements?
