    both motors shut down

Thanks Dale, Well just like most things, I learned that process over the phone from the mechanic after one of my engines stalled off the coast. It took about three outings of filter exams before there was no more water. I never even changed the filters since they were only about two months old...

    both motors shut down

Remove the water separator fuel filter and pour the contents into a clear container like a gatorade bottle. Water is heavier than fuel so it will settle to the bottom. If there is water, You'll see a clear separation. You can carefully pour the gas back into the filter then dump the water. If...

Water Heater: Leave it On or Off?

If a boat is in a slip and connected to shore power, is there a danger with leaving the water heater on during the week? I've heard it isn't good for the heater to be turned on and off frequently. But is there danger with the heater on an unattended boat for a few days?

    Livewell Pump Installation Question

Just finished. It's never as fast as you plan for. The bulkhead mount and the seacock were so close that it took a few attempts to connect them without kinking the hose. But it's all in and double clamped all the way around. Using the Jabsco Cyclone (and $90 worth of brass fittings and hose)...

    Livewell Pump Installation Question

Yes, you both confirmed it. Although a bit more work, the bulkhead mount is the quality solution. Thank You.......

    Livewell Pump Installation Question

We have a 2005 Sailfish 282. The boat came with a Shurflo Bait Centry 1100 which screwed straight into the seacock. The Shurflo just died so I purchased the Jabsco Cyclone as a replacement. The Shurflo is all plastic and is very light. The Jabsco is 7.5 lbs and has a bulkhead mounting...

    Anchor and Chain size

Is there a critical difference between the #22 Delta and the #14. The 282 Sailfish is smack dab in the overlap of the two sizes.

    Anchor and Chain size

OK then. So long as the delta #22 fits my through-pulpit roller, I'm good to go. Thanks so much.

    Anchor and Chain size

Yes, I read through your prior thread. We have the through pulpit system where the anchor hangs underneath. Hopefully the #22 will fit.....No problems with the 1/4" chain though, eh? That's good. I really don't want to modify anything.

    Anchor and Chain size

I have a 2005 282 Sailfish and want to get a new Lewmar Delta anchor. We currently have 1/4" chain and 1/2" line. The delta 14lb would match our 1/4 inch chain but then the anchor is at the very top end of the size chart for the 28' Sailfish. I'd like to get the 22lb Delta (which is on the...

Thanks for all the information - Sailfish 282!

We just bought a 2005 Sailfish 282 w/250 Yamahas. Frankly we would have got the Marlin because we like the size (We down sized from a Bertram 33). 2005 or better Marlins with 4 strokes were just too much money for us. We love the Sailfish though. We cruise at 25-27mph and use about 1.5 mpg...

    Boat lettering

We used BoatUS. The navy blue with a light border of gold (I think) matches really well. Didn't try to match the font since ours is on the stern.

    Cabin Lights Don't Work

We go through at least two drain/rinse cycles at the pump station before pulling into the slip. A dirty holding tank would drive my wife crazy. Hopefully the fresh water rinses will prolong the macerator life..........

    Cabin Lights Don't Work

The pump didn't work so I dropped $460 for another one. We drained and cleaned the tank to find the bottom float on the sensor was broken off. I guess that was the 1/4 full float. I would have been fine with just the 3/4 full warning but we ran water through and both the quarter and three...

    Cabin Lights Don't Work

Duly Noted...It was good to have them working but I know there's no such thing as magic. I have a plan just need the time to do it. It'll be the first thing I tackle after I install the new macerator pump and holding tank sensor that arrive this week.

    Cabin Lights Don't Work

I was working the bundle between the fuse box and the head light. I was pulling the blue/green out of the bundle to generate some slack so I could run the test. My wife yelled "Hey the lights just came on !" Apparently I was tugging just past the midberth light splice point and it re-connected...

    Cabin Lights Don't Work

I'll run the direct wire to from the fuse to the the head light tomorrow and see what happens. The head light is undoubtedly the next light in the string. The wiring diagram shows the bundle running counter clockwise around the front of the boat beginning at the fuse box. I removed a panel...

    Cabin Lights Don't Work

The wire coming from the fuse box is hot. However, by the time it makes it to the midberth (under the helm station and down the starboard side), it's cold. I ran a 16 gauge wire directly from the fuse box to the midberth light and of course it lit up. None of the other cabin lights worked...
