    My son...not really Grady related

Bob, thanks for including everyone. Glad to hear the surgery went well and our thoughts and prayers are with you, Kyle and the rest of your family for a speedy recovery. If you're ever in Vermont look me up for a ride on Lake Champlain. The ice is melting and the Grady is just about ready to go!

    225 Tournament Power recomendations

I have a 1991 Tournament 225 that came with a Yamaha 225 2 stroke. It had plenty of power and would get on plane very quickly. With that said I just "updated" to a Yamaha 250 OX66 2 stroke. I think you'll be happy with either a 225 or 250. I also ran into a number of dealers who suggested...

    Compression Test Numbers

Hey Maine Boy, I just went through a repower and spending way too much time looking at many different engines. I'm not a mechanic but those numbers look good. Every mechanic I did speak with said that as long as your results come back within a 10% range they're good. I've also had a few say...

Help finding Marine Surveyor in Oxnard/Burbank CA Area?

Pete1313, While I live in Vermont I get around a bit and have been to Schock Boats a number of times for parts. Very good outfit to deal with and will steer you right.

    Need Your Thoughts-Yamaha Engine Recommendation

Yes, May. I live in Vermont so depending on the winter we have, the ice will break up in late April and we're on the Lake. I keep my boat on Lake Champlain which is about 120 miles long by 10 miles wide. Lots of fun in the summer. So, Bama '96 when you want to trailer your new ride up here let...

    Need Your Thoughts-Yamaha Engine Recommendation

Hey All, Thanks again for all the input, it was good stuff and helped. In the end the decision was made for me. I offered $5500 for the HPDI and the counter was $6500, so I said thank you very much and we're going with the '99 OX66 225. I'll be able to report in May if it was a good choice!

    Battery Tenders

I live in Vermont and typically just disconnect the batteries and either leave them in the boat or pull them and stick them in my garage (unheated) for the winter (late October - early May). Just to be on the safe side I hook them to a battery charger prior to launching. Have never had a...

    Evenrude ETEC

Don't know where you live, but I've run across two Tournament 225's for sale in the Northeast. One at Spellmans Marine in Hampton, NY, I think it's an '01 with an ETEC on it (might be the same one you're asking about) and the other is a '93 at Cape Yachts in Massachusetts. The '93 has a Yamaha...

    Need Your Thoughts-Yamaha Engine Recommendation

Hey All, Great threads, thanks for all the information on the engines! I was glad to hear that Bama96 was able to confirm the 200 HPDI was a "strong" enough engine as I was a little concerned with that (by the way, Bama96 you're going to love your new boat). I've got a friend inspecting the...

    Need Your Thoughts-Yamaha Engine Recommendation

The HPDi has 245 hours. The OX66 didn't have an hour meter on them, so no idea. However, the '98 engine was a trailer'd boat. Both of the OX66 and the HPDI are no to little apparent corrosion in the pictures.

The 1998 is fuel injected. What would be a fair price for the HPDI? Thanks!

    Need Your Thoughts-Yamaha Engine Recommendation

Okay, I'm nearing the end of my search for a "new" motor for my 1991 Tournament 225 and would like to get some thoughts on what you think would be the best engine for my boat and any knowledge/ background you may have on these engines. Some background; I have two kids going to college in a few...

Yamaha Outboard 25" vs 30" Shaft Length

Hey All, I was wondering if someone could provide some advice as to the affect of shaft length. I have a 1991 Tournament 225 with the engine bracket that had a 1991 Yamaha 225 engine with a 25" shaft. The engine is no longer economically feasible to repair. I found a nice condition 1997...

    New Powerhead - 99 Yamaha 225 OX66

Ideas on Repowering Making the assumption that your Christmas tree didn't have a new engine under it either, here are some thoughts after looking for a new/used Yamaha 200 to 250 hp engine for my Tournament 225. For a rebuilt powerhead would suggest maybe 1Outboard in Pennsylvania or there is...

    225 Tournament Repower

I have a 1991 Tournament 225 that I need to repower as it's just not economically feasible to fix the 1991 Yamaha 225 that is currently on the boat. I'm looking at used engines and was curious if anyone could make some suggestions as to whether a 1999 250 OX66 would be a good choice for this...

    225 Tournament with 200 SW

I have a 1991 Tournament 225 that I bought two years ago. All in all it has been a fantastic boat. With that said the areas we've had issues with are: Fuel tank sensors- had the sending units replaced but still can't get an accurate fuel level on the main tank. A winter project! Wiring- While...

    Repowering a 1991 Tournament 225

Striped Bass, Thanks for the feedback. I'd prefer to rebuild my engine, but didn't know if this would be smart if I could move up to a newer, fuel injected engine for the same or not much more money.
