I have a 1991 Tournament 225 that I need to repower as it's just not economically feasible to fix the 1991 Yamaha 225 that is currently on the boat. I'm looking at used engines and was curious if anyone could make some suggestions as to whether a 1999 250 OX66 would be a good choice for this boat or should I stick with a 225 or 200 HPDI? Also, my preference would be to stay with a Yamaha (then don't need to re-rig controls), but there are a couple of 1999 Mercury 225 Optimax engines with controls included that I'm looking at. Any thoughts on Yamaha vs Mercury? Any and all input is appreciated!!

My buddy just did his 93'. Bought a F200 from a nice guy on this site. The boat handled the 4 stroke weight and it performs nicely. He is very happy. His has he full transom with the bracket. I bet that Yam 250 would be an awesome combo on that Tournament. It is a little thirsty but it is a beast.

The 225 HPDI was a bass boat motor and only came in a 20" shaft.....

I think you could probably find a 225 or 250 ox66 and either one of those would be a good fit.

Plenty of choices to pick for that hull, lots of 250 OX66s around due to 4 stroke fuel/oil saving repowering craze, few 200 HPDIs around.

So I expect some very good deals on 250.
