    Wood Flour/Gas Tank Hatch Re-Core

Re: Wood Flour No it is not fun. If you have any chopped mat around that is easier. You can just pull it apart and shred it. A friend turned me on the the bondo type product, I used it to tranisition/taper the from core thickness to the inspection plate cut outs on my deck rebuild and around...

    Wood Flour/Gas Tank Hatch Re-Core

Re: Wood Flour How is it going Offshore? I usually use the WEST System 406. Seems to work well. In a few places I have used a bondo type product with fiberglass strands in it for high build applications. You can do the same thing wth the WEST, 406 and glass strand too.

    Canvas Shop?

Thanks Lucky he sounds like a good guy. As time was running short I finally found a guy out of RI that is doing a few projects on island and he is going to make my top. He had done cushions for me a few years ago and they were very nice. I had contacted a couple of shops on the cape and was...

    Canvas Shop?

Thanks for the replies guys. My boat is a 83 and the present top is a copy of a copy of the original. This new top will be the fourth top on the boat. I want to change the mounting location of the hoops and I have never seen a Grady of my vintage with the hoops mounted anywhere other than...

    Canvas Shop?

I'm in the market for a new enclosure for my Grady. Does anyone have a shop they can recommend in the Cape Cod area? Thanks.

    Temp vs. Resin

I think 40 is too cold, a waste of time and material. That is one of the things I liked about poly when working on surfboards because I could push it some but only so far. Who do you know with a warm garage? If you could get the room temp up into the higher 50s you could warm the panel with...

    Gas Tank Hatch Recore

The two piece core should be OK. Think of all the joints or seams you had before with the squares. My balsa was two piece and granted I only have one season on it but it is still unbowed and very rigid.

    Gas Tank Hatch Recore

I'm not a glass guy and until I did my hatch my glassing experience was repairing my surfboards. I know on a board you don't want too much resin kicking at once due to the heat produced. So I did my hatch a layer at a time, I let the layer kick and then proceeded with the next layer. With poly...

    Gas Tank Hatch Recore

You are moving right along on this, nice. You probably have the ply installed by now. On mine I thought the hatch was kind of floppy and I wanted a layer of glass against the underside of the hatch so IIRC I used a layer of 10 oz. mat wetted it out and let it set up. Then I put the core in...

    Gas Tank Hatch Recore

Granted we both got a lot of years out of ply but you might look into a core material of some type. As I mentioned I used the balsa. At any rate while I am no expert I then laid down a layer of mat and wetted it out. Next I mixed up a batch of epoxy laid it on and then put the core material...

    Gas Tank Hatch Recore

Ah offshore you are bringing back simply delightful memories. When I removed my deck I could barely carry the darn thing it was so wet. No rot which I found surprising but a lot of wet. Looks good a little more time on the grinder you will be ready to go. The ply in yours and in pictures I have...

    Gas Tank Hatch Recore

Re: Winter Project Offshore - I did mine last spring. Removed the old coring and replaced with end grain balsa. A composite might be better but shipping is an issue here on the island. I cut the core back around the screw holes that secure the panel to the structure below and filled those areas...

    need parts,after hurricane sandy damage

Try Marine Glass Specialties. I think they have parts for the older models. I have not purchased any metal frame parts but I did get all the rubber/gasket pieces to rebuild my cabin windows from them. It was all as original. Sorry about your boat :(

    Hurricane Sandy

    replacement knobs for lockers

Are these the bolts with the smooth heads and a plastic washer/pull used on the fish boxes etc on the stern? I gave up on mine several years ago as they were kind of ugly and the hole they were installed in was growing larger season by season. I went with these...

    Older Grady window replacement??

RobertH - Your boat is quite a bit newer than mine and I am not familiar with your windows. On mine the side windows are glass and replacing the "kitty fur" slide track was not hard, the rubber trim around the edge that covers the screws was easy to replace too. I can not remember for sure if...

    Older Grady window replacement??

Robert are you talking about replacing the glass in the side windows or the plexy in the front cabin windows? I have rebuilt all my cabin windows and replaced the plexy on the front ones but my glass in the side windows was fine.

    Older Grady window replacement??

Try these guys viewtopic.php?p=38984&highlight=#38984 they are a sponsor here. I got my rebuild material from them and it was all as OEM. I did not get need the window frames though so I don't know if they are available.

    Non Skid on Gunnels

I use the Meguiare's three step on everything before the boat goes in the water in the spring and then maintain it with Woody Wax a couple of times during the season.
